you were surprised this boy wasn't in a frat when you first met him. spoiler alert: he was.

when you had asked him why he wasn't living in the frat house, all he said was "the boys are too rowdy. i prefer my personal space."

you found that very hard to believe. he was out partying every weekend and had at least two girls on his side at all times.

"come on, come to the party with me! you never go." he pouted, bending over to rest his elbows on the kitchen counter with his  irresistible face resting on his palms. "for the hundredth time ajax, i don't feel like spending my lovely friday night surrounded by sweaty bodies & puking college students." you placed a lid on the pot of pasta you were cooking.

"ugh you're a party pooper." he dramatically groans & comes around to where your finished garlic bread was. "besides, it's not like you have anything else planned!" he says taking a big bite of the bread.

"well excuse you," you snatched the bread out of his hand, leaving you with a very sad childe. "i have a date with edward cullen!" "you've seen twilight a million times." "your point being?"

one night, childe didn't come home. you had assumed he was at another one of his hook ups or he had just crashed at scaramouche's. but the next morning, you saw childe sprawled across your couch with the nastiest cuts and bruises you have ever seen. there was an open first aid kit on the coffee table showing that he at least attempted to clean himself up.

"you idiot." you whispered to yourself. you shook him awake gently, not knowing what other injuries this dumbass might have. he stirred and let out a groan, "5 more minutes, promise."

you were not having it. "ajax you better wake your ass up right now or so help me god i will throw a vase at you." he sat up so quick you flinched a bit. your eyes scan his shirtless body, evaluating all of the injures. without thinking, you begin to trace the bruise on his right shoulder.

"what happened to you? and more importantly why didn't you wake me up?" you mumble, still fixated on the bruise. childe's cheeks heated up at the skin to skin contact. he never blushes. "uhm i didn't wanna bother you? waking you is basically asking for death." he teased lightly. you snap your gaze up to his. "ajax, i'm literally a pre-med student. what else is hurting?"

childe explained how he got into a physical fight because someone was insulting you. he of course wasn't having it, so he beat the other guy to a pulp. the guy wasn't as good of a fighter as childe was of course, but he managed to get a few hits in. after that day, you looked at childe in a new light. he protected your name and got hurt in the process; something that meant a lot to you.

slowly, childe started changing too. no more random hookups, no more partying every weekend (he even joined you on your rom-com movie nights), and no more recklessness. he realized that he wanted to be a better person for you. a better possible love interest for you. and before he knew it, he had fallen hopelessly in love with you.

being roommates with albedo was a surprise waiting for you everyday. his room was practically a science lab. at random times in the middle of the night, you'll occasionally hear a big bang from his room. this night, it was particularly very loud. rushing over in your sleepwear, you'd slam his room door open to see a puff of dark grey smoke coating the room.

you pull your shirt up over your nose and attempt to swat the smoke away with your hand. "cough cough, albedo? are you okay- cough." you could barely make out his figure in the thick smoke, but continue to walk towards him. before you could take another step, albedo bolts towards you, grabbing your wrist. he runs out of the room, dragging you with him. once you're out to safety, he shuts the door behind him.

"y/n! are you alright, let me see your eyes. can you breath fine?" he grabs you by the shoulders and brings your body very close to his. the lack of space between you is enough to make you forget everything. "i- um, i'm- i'm fine albedo. what happened? what was that?" you managed to speak. once he's sure you're alright, he pulls away a bit and loosens the grip on your shoulders. he looks at his bedroom door, "an experiment went wrong. i wasn't expecting the outcome to go wrong so horribly." he returns his eyes back to you with an apologetic smile. "i don't think it's safe for us to sleep here tonight."

after that incident, you and albedo both agreed that no more experiments should be tested in the dorm. (the RA may or may not have also banned him from it) you did feel bad for albedo, so you offered to assist him at the college laboratory on your free time. you were a biology major so it worked perfectly.

you guys had long nights full of laughter and fun in the lab. most nights security had to kick you guys out because you lost track of time.

“ [y/n]...?” Childe walked to you, showing his hand to you

you look up at him, confused at such actions 

“why me?” you hesitate but ask

“why not, we make a good team, don’t we? c’mon” Childe reasured with that smile 

You stare at his hand for a brief moment but gave in to that cheeky smile, the one you knew as a kid

“ ah! With you, we make a good duo! That prize money is sure to be ours” Childe winked at you

You give a nervous smile and look at the time and wait quietly for the round to start

It could be anything for all you knew

“ you will play a game of your choice with your partner, the player who manages to get ten marbles from their partner wins”

Your eyes widened and you turned to Childe, he was too in shock

“ does that mean…?” You said, barely a whisper

Childe gulped and turned to you as the rules echoed again in the background

“ no, no, maybe it’s something else it has to be-“

“ Childe…” you stop his words by grasping his hands

“ I want you to say hi to your siblings for me okay?” You muster, tears whelming in your eyes

Childe shook his head furiously, not accepting that fact

“ don’t say that, please…”

“ it’s the only way, you serve more purpose than me…” you said as your head gently leaned on the wall

“ no no here! Please take it!” Childe got his bag and tried to give it to you

You didn’t take it however

“ please…” Childe begged with tears in his eyes

“ one game, please it can’t end like this-“

“ fine” you said as you muster your tears

“ o-k” Childe straightened up with his trembling hands

“ whoever can throw it far will win all of it, after all it’s one match” you said emotionless

Childe looked at the space with sorrowful eyes

“ we can-“

“ not now, see that timer? Can we at least talk it out?” Childe said shaken up

You stare at him and nod silently as Childe guided you to a seat area 

You two sat in silence thinking of what to say

“ Childe…I’ve known you for a long time and I wanted to confess something” you said staring at the ground

Childe looked at you immediately

“ what is it?” He asked softly

You mustered your courage and stared in those ocean eyes

“ please promise me if I don’t make it and you make it out of this hell hole…please say hi to your siblings for me and live a happy life without me” you said tears on the brim of your eyes with your pinkie out

“ I can’t promise that please don’t. say. that.” Childe said as he avoided your eyes

“ please.” You said as your hand pressed on his hand

“ I- [y/n] I love-“

“ well look at the time..heh it’s almost over best we get on with it huh?” You said as you wiped your tears and stood up, not letting Childe finish his words

“ oh yeah…” Childe said as he slowly stood up

You sighed and looked at the wall and took a marble

Childe glanced at you and shakingly took his marble out

“ you first” you said to which Childe slowly nodded

Childe rolled the marble without effort and you noticed and after sighing you dropped the marble

“ looks like I lost to you..” you said standing up properly

Childe looked at you furiously

“ Why Did You Do That??!? [Y/n] Why?!? Do It Again!” Childe said as he grabbed your shoulders

“ I Cleary lost Childe give it a break-“

“ WHY? Why…did you join this game” Childe’s voice turns weaker as he looked at the ground, tears raining on the floor

“ i hope you have a good life Childe” you whispered as you gave him the marbles

“ [y/n]! I-“

You smiled and gave him a soft nod

Seeing this Childe’s heart broke, it’s ached, it shattered, his body shaking, he loved you, he didn’t want to lose you but when he saw you playing this game, he knew your fate was already written down

The guard observed this and got his gun ready

“[y/n]…” Childe trembled with his words

“ I love you…” Childe said looking at you trembling as he gripped your shoulders

Tears reached your cheeks as you looked at him

“ please…let me go Ajax” you said using his real name, a name that touched him, a name he would never want to hear be used

“ I can’t-“ he said as he hugged you

You smiled and patted his shoulder

“ I love you Ajax, but it wasn’t meant to be…see you in my next life” you smiled as Childe let go

He tried to speak but his mouth couldn’t bring him to do it

By now the guard has gestured Childe to leave and he had to obey, his heart screaming no, his legs aching from the pain, his chest sore, his heart threatening to stop beating for you…

“ Ajax…I love you so please let me go” you said for the last time before a thud echoed on the floor

Childe flinched with his back turned so he wouldn’t have to face your eyes, but what was on your face at that moment? He thought, his hands clenched, tears pouring down his cheeks

“ I love you too…”

Childe sighed as he turned the TV off

“ wow that was a amazing performance” Childe clapped

You look at him, “ you think?” You tease

“ it made me tear up” Childe said wiping his tears

“ you cry baby” you teased

“ YOUR cry baby darling ~” he chimed

You scoffed but gave in to his charms as he hugs you

“ lucky your right here, with me for the rest of your life my love “ Childe smiled as he hugged you tightly

You smiled, “ forever, that’s a promise”
