Penalty Box Warmer | Zambroni | Cat Dad (alleged)
Vital plays hockey in a local league with Newt! Plays is perhaps a strong word though. because he does spend a lot of the time in the penalty box. He has a habit of starting fights that Newt finishes even though he HAD IT UNDER CONTROL! Coach exasperatedly says one day they'll rename a penalty box the 'Vital Desroche Memorial Bench'. He and Newt have a few dedicated fans who love the chaos, the manager of one of the concessions at the arena chief among them.
That doesn't pay all the bills though, and he moonlights for the arena as a ice tractor zamboni operator, resurfacing and maintaining the ice for other events. Occasionally he catches a figure skating...contest? match? he doesn't exactly know what they're called. But they're fun to watch...
There are a number of stray cats that mysteriously know when to gather in the alley behind the stadium, when Vital gets out, and occasionally (every night) some food and water is left out for them. Yes there may be signs of at least one cat around their apartment, but that would be a violation of his renter's agreement and he would never. He doesn't even like cats.
Do I know anything about hockey? Not one thing! Yet. But its a really fun setting to think about!
