Eleanor Powell tap dances to the song You Are My Lucky Star in the MGM/Roy Del Ruth 1935 musical Broadway Melody of 1936. This was Eleanor's first leading role, instantly propelling her to stardom. Eleanor's glamorous costumes in the film were designed by Gilbert Adrian, and the movie was nominated for three Academy Awards, Best Picture, Best Writing (Original Story) and Best Dance Direction, winning in the latter category for choreographer Dave Gould.
