T. Rex’s 8th studio album (counting the 4 released as Tyrannosaurus Rex) in 5 years, Tanx was released on 16 March 1973.
While hit singles bookended the album (”20th Century Boy” was released two weeks before, and “The Groover” would be released in June), no songs from the album were released as singles, as 25-year-old Marc Bolan wanted the album to heard as a whole.
Bolan had also used Tanx to expand T. Rex’s sound from glam to include funk, gospel, and soul influences.
The album was another hit in the UK, peaking at #4, but a disappointment in the US, where it only peaked at #102. It had an enormous influence on other bands, however, especially David Bowie, who would incorporate many of Bolan’s ideas into 1975′s Young Americans (which would peak at #2 in the UK and #9 in the US) including using Bolan’s producer, Tony Visconti.

err obligatory girodoro for the bingo
oh my FAVORITE. 9000 years and counting of girodoro oblivious pining. To me. their same brand of freaks is not being freaks. they’re the only 2 guys here who are actually serious. i love it sm whenever theyre both being all intense and serious and dramatic and keroros off to the side going “wtf is wrong with them” whats wrong with them is they both think theyre in a drama instead of a comedy. and theyre kind of right but sometimes theyre right while everyone Else is still in a comedy so they just look kind of dumb. It’s great. I love these guys the “holding back the urge to take a screenshot every single time they’re just On Screen At The Same Time” amount, so we’re all clear
