It’s Monday. It’d be such a mind fuck to make Yoshi a Pokémon in an upcoming #Pokemon game.

In terms of recognition, my ultimate goal with music is to maintain a minimum of 15k streams per day. Don’t care about any recognition beyond that.

“Take Me Higher” was recorded while sitting cross-legged on the floor, holding a microphone in my hand, without any sound insulation. Bedroom pop at its purest.

Serious, grownup writing mode engage: spend five years pouring everything you have into an endeavor. Blood, sweat, tears. Every free moment. 16 hours on Saturday, 16 hours on Sunday. When the journey is over, you discover that you have nothing to show for it. Not a single piece of concrete evidence. No new relationships. No value created. You may as well have spent 5 years in a coma. That’s what “Take Me Higher” is about.

Similarly to song 40, I was in the process of relearning how to make things sound good again after a seven-year hiatus (read post 36 for more info), and once again, I didn’t nail it. You can hear moments of self-consciousness in my voice, along with EQ issues over the master track. That’s ok. Song 41 needed to be made before song 42 could be made, and so on.

This paragraph sounds somewhat sarcastic, but I promise it’s 100% heartfelt. While the lyrics were fueled by anger, and possibly undiagnosed depression, the creative release brought about a feeling of euphoria that I hadn’t experienced before. I sobbed during the creation of this song, not out of sadness, but out of the joy of rediscovering creativity. The combination of dark lyrics and euphoric feelings was strange. This emotional release continued throughout songs 40-49. Long, ugly sobs for each of them (excerpts from post 40).

In April, 2021, almost all of GoBoy 3, 4 and 5‘s songs were restructured to be under 2m 30s, including this song. In an attempt to increase replay value in this streaming era, most of GoBoy’s songs are now purposely around 2m 20s (excerpts from post 38).
