#taiyoucon

A short but sweet bit, since it took me a few months to get around to writing. Due to some depression issues and the Coronavirus quarantine, I’ve been in a weird funk since the last time I posted here. That aside, I want to finally say something about this amazing & fun con that I got to attend (and so far is the only anime convention I got to enjoy for 2020, with how many are cancelled).

TaiyouCon may be small, but it has this wonderful vibe of the “good ol days” of attending hotel cons that myself and many other people have loved (but minus the hotel, somewhat, since this con takes place in a small con center). Anime fans / cosplayers down in Arizona are quite nice & there’s very little to fear in terms of drama or other dumb crap that bigger cons tend to attract, and it made for a very happy experience for me and the friends that I stayed with. Being a media guest also made for an interesting experience as well, having access to latenight events (like the Anime Idol singer/dancing group that put on a show) and taking photos of the amazing cosplayers that I met during that weekend. Epicly, also, a lot of Wakfu fans are in Arizona! Had lots of people recognizing the hat and backpack that I was wearing with Wakfu game art. Felt awesome.

One feature I’d like to point out, that I enjoyed, was the “Bazaar” they held in the hallways of one building. Fans bring items from home that they’d like to sell, and set up shop on the floor (keeping off to the sides, so people can still be able to walk through the hallway without fuss). All kinds of things from manga, anime merch, sentai series’ stuff, J-pop & K-pop items, and even a few bits of homemade arts were available in this sort of “nerd yard sale” at the con. And mind you, this was all separate from the actual merch & fan art being sold in the exhibition hall near the main entrance to the con center. I’m rather proud of the fun things that I picked up from a few people, including a Digimon figurine of Gomamon and my new hat that happily reminds me of Yugo from Wakfu.

Have but just one regret, though, as small as it is (and my own dorky fault) - Feeling dumb asf that I missed out on missing one of the guests, who I forgot had been there even though I perused the con guide often. *SOB* Missed out on getting to meet Kira Buckland!!! (who, besides the several anime & videogames she’s done voices for, is known best by me for being the voice of Evangelyne in Wakfu season 3; hope she gets to keep voicing her...)

Merci TaiyouCon... for having been a wonderful start to & a glittering shining moment for my year thus far... and thanks for the memories that I got to share with my best friend & his girlfriend, and a few new friends I made as well. *bow*

After I got back from my trip, besides being worn out from jet lag & going from such warm weather back to the cold and yuck, it freakin’ snowed here! That doesn’t happen that often, and it even stuck around for several days. Ugh.

Excuses sincères... I’ll eventually post the details on my Arizona adventures, soon as I have enough time to sit down to work on it. For now, another fun pic - of the time I let dear Az be a “guardian” of the bed in the hotel. LOL.

Back from Arizona, and unfortunately I’m still rather tired.

Had an awesome time, though, which was great. Looking forward to writing up that TaiyouCon report when I’m feeling a lot less achy and awkward. <(^c^)>
