Okay I’m answering this ask like this because B/rucas wasn’t censored and I don’t want this to end up in the tags. But under the cut still because I’m about to rant (the usual lol).
BUT YES! And the thing is I realize that sometimes creators of shows cater to their fan-base and do things for fan service, hell even I have fallen for fan service couples before but AT LEAST make it believable. The BL setup made absolutely no sense in season 2. I obviously wasn’t around when season 2 actually aired on tv but I talked to people who were and they said how there was this huge confusion when BL happened in season 2 because it was so out of the blue and they never properly squashed LP which was this huge relationship back in season 1…hell, even Mark Schwan had to come out and say he fucked up. Also, lets be honest, fan service usually works when one fan base is much larger and louder than the other but in the case of Leyton vs B/rucas, both sides were pretty even and equal so inconsistencies were gonna get called out.
Plus did people really think Mark was going to end the show without giving Leyton a proper chance at a relationship??? Like come on, B/rucas were bound to break up. Maybe the Chopia relationship sped up the process, who knows? But it was going to happen. There was no way Mark started off season 3 with the intention of giving B/rucas endgame. 3x01 literally starts off with Lucas saying “It’s always gonna be there isn’t it? You & Me.” To Peyton of all people…
And season 5 was a joke lol. Brooke wasn’t even on Lucas’s radar. The whole season was Lucas struggling with his feelings between Peyton & Lindsey. Everyone spent the season calling out Lucas on his feelings for Peyton. It was made clear that B/rucas were strictly friends through out the season. Obviously Brooke was thrown in as an “option” just to keep B/rucas fans interested in the next season. I mean just looking at it from a Leyton fan perspective, if the season 5 cliffhanger left us with Lucas calling up Lindsey and Brooke I sure as hell would have checked out and probably not even bothered to check out season 6….
