How did you go about introducing yourself to new congregations? I’m considering visiting a few places nearby but am religiously uneducated and terrible at striking up and maintaining conversations with other people, especially with nongeeks. Totally ok if you don’t want to answer!

If I'm going alone to a new one I tend to contact places via phone or email in advance to introduce myself and say I'll be visiting / if I'm "shul shopping", and also use that time to ask any questions I have about upcoming events of theirs I might be interested in. When you do that, they sometimes also make effort to introduce you to people / make you know you're welcome and it's a lot less intimidating than just entering a place full of strangers. I don't know if that's exactly the most common route for people, but with the places I've lived and violent attack history I don't want to just be a stranger showing up out of nowhere. Would love if anyone has other suggestions that might be better chimes in
