Earth and, more importantly, Mars was a rapidly vanishing dot on the sensors as the TARDIS hurtled through the vortex at full speed. In the console room, the Doctor ran his hands through his hair, feeling like he was clutching at the fracturing remnants of his sanity.
He’d gone too far on Bowie Base 1. He’d really gone too far. Donna had been absolutely right - he needed someone to stop him; but he burned through companions like the a flame through paper, leaving nothing but a trail of destruction in his wake.Â
There was no time in the vortex, so to speak, but he felt the ghostly tick of nonexistent seconds as they slide past anyway. His own personal timeline stretched out in front of him, hazy and unclear, a tangled mess to match the chaos in his mind, dogged by the whispers of prophecy.Â
Your song is ending.
He shook his head. Prophecies weren’t fixed points, and everyone’s song ended, anyway. While he still had breath in his body, he still had time for one more adventure.
The TARDIS’ bell rang as she touched down and he flung on his coat, stepping through the doors. Ready to see what this new world would bring.Â
