Queer Star Wars Characters (Round 3): General Bracket Match 8
Just Lucky vs T'onga
Just Lucky
T'onga
Just Lucky | Identity: bisexual (male and nonbinary) | Media: Doctor Aphra comics
Just Lucky, to pay for his brotherâs gambling debts, was forced to become a member of the Canto Bight based crime syndicate the Sixth Kin. There he began a relationship with another lieutenant of the syndicate, Ariole Yu. He later left the active service of the Sixth Kin and broke off his relationship with Yu, which he could do as long as he kept paying off his brotherâs gambling debts. He took jobs off planet and eventually became an associate of Doctor Aphra. But when she attempted to obtain the Rings of Vaale, he became a double agent for the wealthy Ronen Tagge. After Aphra âkilledâ Ronen, he captured her for Dominia Tagge. She offered Aphra a job, while cutting off Lucky.
Needing a constant flow of cash, he returned to the Sixth Kin to see if they had any jobs. He was forced to work with Ariole Yu, his ex, to kill their shared mentor who had defected to Crimson Dawn. They fought Crae, refusing his offer to join Crimson Dawn. After they lost, they were thrown in the brig where they joined Aphra and Sana Starros is escaping. However, Aphra eventually stranded the two. Qiâra gave her pitch for Crimson Dawn and then let them leave. Back on Canto Bight, the Sixth Kin attempted to bait them into killing each other. They saw through this and decided to take a job from Ronen Tagge to steal the Spark Eternal.
To do this job, they confronted a Spark Eternal possessed Aphra on the Vermillion. But seeing what they were up against, they decided to hit the bricks. As they fled, they ran into Sana Starrosâ âSave Aphraâ crew, running to confront/save Aphra. Just Lucky ended up convincing Ronen to save Sanaâs team after they were defeated and their ship destroyed. Sana convinced Ronen that his only choice was to kill Domina, and that her team would join him to repay their âdebtâ. They joined Ronen in his Crimson Dawn supported coup for the Tagge Corporation, which turned out to be a trap Domina and Sana set to lure Ronen and his supporters into the open. Sana arranged for all of their debts to the Tagge Corporation to be forgiven, so Ariole and Just Lucky joined her in attempting to save Aphra.
In addition to his reignited relationship with Ariole, he also has a crush on the non-binary Lapin Tagge.
Tâonga | Identity: wlw | Media: Bounty Hunters comic series
Tâonga was a bounty hunter and the twin sister of Tâongar. She eventually retired from that life and settled on a farm with her wife Losha Tarkon. However, her brother was killed due to perceived betrayal by their groupâs leader Nakano Lash. When news of Lashâs whereabouts resurfaced years later, she left to take revenge. She was âkilledâ by Boba Fett who also wanted Lashâs bounty. However, the locals retrieved and healed her. Her wife came to her, and the two adopted a Nexu owned by the man who nursed Tâonga back to health. The couple created a new bounty hunting crew, and recruited a group of already established bounty hunter characters. When Valance was captured by the Empire, her crew became the protagonists of the Bounty Hunters comic series. They took a series of jobs, including one that led to them fighting the Knights of Ren and managing to survive.Â
Although she can be brash at times, Tâonga is a good leader and able to keep together a crew of strong and often differing personalities. Most recently, Valance Berliet joined their crew, which caused Inferno Squadron to hunt them and damage Valanceâs personality matrix. With their Nexu dead, Losha traumatized, and the Empire hunting them, Tâonga dosed her wife with sleeping gas so Tashu Leech could take her away from their crew. The couple will eventually reunite, as during the time of the New Republic Tâonga is still hunting with Losha once again part of her crew. Her desire for revenge against Lash was driven by her cultureâs views about honor and the connection between twins. However when Lash explained what really happened on the job that killed Tâongar, she gave up on revenge. She also feels obligated to save Valance from the Empire and save his mind because of their past work together.
