So, I saw this band on TV one day (like the beginning of 9th grade if I'm not mistaken), and I instantly fell in love with this fucking band, dudes.

First video I ever saw for SOAD was for the song, "Sugar."

I got their first album (red hand version/uncensored cut/so much better), loved the ever-loving shit out of it, and then totally got 'Toxicity' next, (last one I got from them was 'Steal This Album'; LOVE that title).

So, I heard this song before the music video came out and I was always completely impressed by how beautiful & powerful this song is (now, as time has passed in my life, it's become more profound & meaningful with it's nostalgic value).

I've always been impressed with the significant level of intelligence & creativity (and raw power) of this band. These dudes can fuckin' play, man. I've never seen 'em live, but I'm sure if I did I'd probably lose my shit (hahaha).

I've always thought that Serj Tankian (the lead singer) has one of the most uniquely beautiful voices I have ever heard. I always thought he had a voice unlike any other vocalist, and I still think that is true to this day.

When I was younger, I had read about how the band originally had roots in Armenia (a country, of which, I had little-to-no familiarity with until that moment; I was about 14 years old). I had learned about how Serj had initially started as an Opera singer (so impressive) before he had made a shift into the Metal/Rock scene. If you pay attention to any of his vocals, especially throughout the course of their albums, it's absolutely apparent that he has an opera background (very theatrical style; very powerful singer).

Despite the band's sophisticated & quirky & intelligent & heavy sound (with plenty of speed), it becomes abundantly clear upon listening to their music that these guys really care about what is happening in our world (and they have something very important to say about it). I love that. I have always found that to be a truly noble quality in any band.

I had learned through this band (years ago) that they had a heritage with a turbulent past, and that Armenia has seen it's own troubles throughout history (which had an absolute influence on the band's sound & overall purpose).

It's crazy how I have not listened to this band since high school (for real), and their music still hits just as hard (particularly in the lyrical content). You listen to toxicity and the lyrics in that album are still totally relevant to this day (a testament to this band's significance and power).

I've always admired how this band had almost a vaudevillian quality to their presence (you'd see it right off the bat in the "Sugar" video; .."Get the sugah".. sorry.. inside joke. you'd have to know me to get that one..) - TOTALLY a band worth checking out if you've been living under a rock in recent decades (hey.. I like the rock.. be one with the rock..).

I have not listened to anything past their third album, so I'm sure there's even more amazing music I have yet to discover from this band.

This song made quite the impact after the video came out. Visualizing while listening to this song before the video came out was a special experience that only earlier fans probably know (like myself).

Here's to Armenian artistry.

Post Script: ok..hold on.. I said the "red hand version" of the album is "uncensored".. but I thought about it and the "yellow hand version", which is basically the Actual version of the album, that one is explicit, too..
