A few weeks ago, I published a blog post discussing the mainframe's role in mobile computing. I made a side comment about the resemblance between what's happening with mobile and how things transpired with client/server...and referred directly to the "old world" of fat client applications. Mobile platforms like iOS and Android are incubators for fat clients. But some app providers have seen the potential problem here and are trending towards technology like HTML 5 as a cross-platform, portable, rich-client development environment. Other solutions like IBM's recently-acquired Worklight can also help.
