#system communication

I've been seeing a lot of opinions being shared on the Simply Plural and Octocon shutdown situation, but not many posts compiling things to do personally while new alternatives are being made... so I thought I'd make one.

If these don't work for your system, don't beat yourself up. If you want more advice, feel free to send an ask or leave a comment! I'm also certain there's other things you can do, but these are things my system use. Pluralkit is mentioned lots here... and frankly, it's because pluralkit is such a solid monolith I hardly think it's going anywhere.

The blog I mentioned archiving/making essentially a database of projects for systems is @systemprojects ! I hope you don't mind being mentioned, I think your blog is very well organised and many will find it useful.

We feel like we sound like ourselves, in our head. Sometimes it's just a quiet generic thinking voice tho.

Pros of using this app:

It is an offline app and no internet is required for it

Private chats and groupchats can happen between alters

While messaging you can quickly switch between profiles (by holding down on the send button)

You can create 'lists' (which are clusters of account profiles you can see), filter posts, and the hashtag system works if you want to filter by #

You can also like, comment, and follow other alters

Folders can be made for organising

You can post images, links, GIF's and even doodles.

It is completely private.

The app developers also have alternative social media apps such as: Instagram, SNS, and tiktok- Just incase twitter is not your style.

Can be used on any device (except PC/Mac I believe)

There isn't a limit on the amount of profiles you can have (that I am aware of)

You can quickly and easily switch between profiles.

Cons:

The app has ads, I personally have not found them disruptive but you can pay to remove them if you want to.

If you want to use the app you can only use it on one device, while data is transferable it will only work on one app at a time.

The app can take a bit of getting used to, we've been using it for a few years and it's still confusing.

You can't have folders within a folder.

Lists are limited unless you pay for the subscription (personally I haven't found them useful enough to justify doing this)

You can not have more than one profile active at once, so you will have to manually switch accounts.

You can't transfer alter lists from websites like simply plural (which makes sense as this is not designed for systems) however if you have a lot of profiles adding them all can be time consuming

Personal notes:

We have found this very useful for documenting our day to do life and communicating, while there are features we would change, overall I have found it a good alternative to journaling.
