as both a queendom and golden child fan, i’m of 2 conflicting minds about golcha on road to kingdom. Â
there shouldn’t be a road to kingdom at all. the best part about queendom was the lack of stakes - all the competitors on queendom had strong fandoms and songs that were familiar to the public, so the show was a great way to showcase their talents without risking losing any support (aoa and park bom were in the most heat, but both were and are extremely popular). the groups on road to kingdom haven’t had time to build either a strong fandom or public familiarity - they haven’t had time to flop, basically. i think it’s better for these groups to build up a reputation through good music first. golcha has had 2 successful comebacks in the last 4 months, and they appear on track to continue their rise in popularity. considering their more organic growth, i’m just not sure how much they need a show like this.
if golcha is confirmed on it, i believe that the show will be a net positive for them, win or lose. i feel like you can only gain fans from these kinds of shows, without losing any existing fans. i know lovelyz got a lot of hate from the show, but i became a lovelyz fan because of queendom, and i bet that lovelyz gained more fans as well. despite the evil editing, the show helps showcase each groups’ specialties and teamwork really well (i watched the performances and preparation scenes, not the evals). even if golcha doesn’t win, they’ll have presented their talents to the public, which will give them more fans. i hope woollim does a better job of highlighting golcha’s strengths rather than making them conform to trends.
‘take me somewhere’ and ‘temptation’ were both composed by davink, and lovelyz needs to work with them more often - they suit this sound so well
