How did you appeal the posts? I haven’t found a way to appeal with the new system and I haven’t seen anyone else say...

I’m going to try and condense everything into one post.

The first part is easiest to do on a PC.

First thing to do is go to your archive.  It can be found at blogname.tumblr.com/archive (replace ‘blogname’ with the name of your blog).  It will show everything that you’ve ever done with your blog.  The only flagged posts you can do anything about is ones that your originated.  That means if you reblogged something, you have to wait for the original poster to appeal it.  Since I post a lot of art, I filtered it so it only showed photos.  And then you’re going to want to scroll through and find these:

Clicking on the hidden posts will give a page saying that the content you’re looking for isn’t there.  But, don’t close that window yet.  The web address will be blogname.tumblr.com/post/postnumber/weknowwhat’sgoodforyou.  Copy the post number.  Open a different window and enter the address of www.tumblr.com/edit/postnumber.  Is it your original post? Great.  If it’s somebody else’s, ignore it.

Now, either using a word processing program or good ol’ fashioned pen and paper, write down the postnumber and the date it was posted.  That’s not important other than helping you later.  Do that for every flagged post.

The next part I found to be easiest on my phone.  Start scrolling through your feed until you get to a banned post.  The image will have a red bar across the top telling you that the image violates the new standard, but on the right will be a box you can tap/click which says ‘appeal’.

And that’s it.  As far as I know.  I did that for over two hours yesterday, all 23 images were restored.  There might be an easier way in the future, such as in the drop down menu on the pc version, but I haven’t seen that on mine. 

it’s cause they’re still in beta and so want to slowly add people + still need money to build the site. it will be free eventually but idk when.

so it’s not technically a website in the traditional sense? it’s a decentralized social network, so it’s more like... a Facebook where there are no central servers where somebody keeps and mines/sells your data, instead it just sends your posts directly to your friends/followers without a third party who has the power to read/censor/leak/do whatever they want with that content.

The neatest part imo is that it uses the internet infrastructure to transmit data but it doesn’t actually need the internet infrastructure to maintain the social networks -- so like for example, if Facebook went down, there’s the potential to lose all the content and connections you’ve made there because it’s all on Fb’s servers. But even if the whole internet infrastructure were to go down, Scuttlebutt is still designed to share/spread content peer-to-peer via local networks. It’s slower but it still works, and the social network itself stays intact while you figure out how to reconnect.

mostly i just think it’s neat! and seems prudent to explore given the horseshit every single centralized social media platform has been up to since the beginning of the internet! and the icon is a very cute hermit crab:

Yeah, I don’t dispute that. I think you’re right that he thinks it’s for their own good, and tbh the camp probably has protected people who might have otherwise been murdered or imprisoned in an objectively worse place, but I think it’s important to remember that Thomas (and I’m sure other people there too) were taken from their families and forced to be secluded from society and their friends and loved ones. It’s very much a “we can’t change society so here’s a place you can live away from it and also here’s a new job you probably don’t want, it’s for your own good we promise” situation, which is, I think, kinda fucked. 

My point was really that, if we just look at the Latin, it’s ambiguous whether the verb is active or passive because it isn’t there. This impacts whether the subjects (presumably the slaves) have agency in their situation or not. And considering that a bunch of those people were like spirited away in the dead of night by their rich families, that would make me take the verb as passive, which would essentially mean that they were taken not for their own benefit (sibi), but for the benefit of others (aliis), which has all sorts of implications. 

It’s also important to remember that Georgia was a colony of Britain and the literal fruit of their labor was being sent to England aka the society that rejected them and wanted them dead. This isn’t just a cute farming commune where people get to like grow their own food and get back to nature. It’s a plantation in colonial Georgia which was meant, at the end of the day, to turn a profit.
