The last character in our series “Pedro’s Characters as Star Signs” is Silva. He represents Libra.

Libras, the scales of balance, are diplomatic, romantic, idealistic, sensitive and charming. Captivating and great listeners, they can also be manipulative, indecisive and unreliable. Ruled by Venus, they love love, beauty, intellectualism and money. Obsessed with balance and harmony, they have an ambivalence to them and a tendency to try and make everyone happy that might cause them some trouble. They can navigate any social situation and solve conflicts by simply turning on their charm.

Silva is a character that seems to be trying to find balance in his life and the situation he’s in. He crosses the desert to see the sheriff who is investigating a murder case in which his son is the main suspect. Reuniting with the lover he broke up with 25 years ago and hasn’t seen since, he is divided between the father role trying to save his son, and the lover who still has feelings for the man he fell in love with all those years in the past. He is diplomatic, charming, sensitive, and he uses that to convince sheriff Jake to not go after his son. But Silva also comes across as manipulative, using their old feelings to persuade Jake to let his son go. He is romantic and idealistic, still thinking of living in a ranch with Jake after all that time and sharing a life with him. Balancing his two loves, he is constantly trying to solve that conflict in his life and in his mind.

Our ninth character in the series “Pedro’s Characters as Tarot Cards” is Silva. The card that represents him is “Temperance”.

Temperance is a card about harmony and balance, patience and the flow of time. Past and future united, the mind and the material world, the union of dualities. A person with the energy of Temperance brings the principle of moderation and blending different elements into a cohesive whole. They invite you to seek balance between your inner and outer worlds, and to navigate through challenges, claiming past and future with serenity and not succumbing to emotional extremes. Interesting to notice, Temperance is not the same as Justice. It’s not always about being fair, but knowing what you want, yearning for something while also understanding that it takes patience, time, trial and error, sometimes getting everything wrong and then trying something different.

Silva is someone who seeks balance in his life and the different sides of himself. He is a father who is trying to save his son from prison and punishment, even knowing that he did commit the crime, but also making peace with his past and the idea of a future with the man he still loves. He fell in love with Jake 25 years ago and believed that they could share a life of tranquility together in a ranch. His presence and allure make Jake confront his feelings, from the past and for the future, about himself and what he wants from life, while still being the sheriff and doing the job that he needs to do. Silva is an integrating force, he has his dualities and he brings Jake to see and deal with his own. Some people understand what Silva does as being manipulative of Jake, and even if he actually is, Temperance is still not about Justice. He wants to save his son who is guilty of murder, and he does love Jake and wants to be with him, even if he must play with his feelings for a bit to do what he believes will save his son. The father and lover like the water being poured from one cup to the other by the Angel in the card, past and future, inner and outer world.
