@sweetsolarsβ liked for an Ion starter!
If there was one thing Ion could count on, it was having the opportunity to steal away into the Daath library when he was worn out from his other duties. He knew Anise would have much preferred he return to his room, and sheβd even offered to bring books from the library to him, but heβd insisted he would rather be reading there. So, sheβd let him. Ion did appreciate how she worried, but there was no cause for alarm as far as he was concerned. A little time in the library would be fine. The worst heβd likely have to deal with would be Mohs or Tritheim requesting something or reminding him of something else he needed to attend to.
Truth be told, Ion was looking for one book in particular. It was true he had learned as much as he could about the Orderβs history already, but it never hurt to brush up on it. As he walked toward the library, however, Ion caught sight of one particular God-General.
Now, that in and of itself wasnβt odd. The God-Generals were as much a part of the Order as anyone else. Still, Ion was used to seeing Legretta either at Vanβs side or with one of the others. Perhaps she was waiting for someone, he reasoned. Or perhaps she had returned from some task or another that sheβd been assigned.
Or maybe...Β Ionβs brow furrowed a bit. He knew better than anyone that it was easy for others within the Order to use him. As much as he was the leader of the Order, he also was essentially a tool. Someone that could be whisked away at a momentβs notice for whatever purpose they needed him to fulfill.
Ion drew in a breath, and he put on a smile. Perhaps he was just overthinking it. If Legretta needed him for something, surely sheβd have sought him out by then. Besides, what could it hurt to just talk to her? Ion was aware of her and the other God-Generals, sure, but he didnβt know any of them very well personally. Mostly it was by reputation and ranking.
Perhaps it was time to fix that a little?
βGood afternoon, Legretta,β Ion greeted, warm voice matching the soft smile he wore. He had little doubt that he likely wasnβt getting a smile in return. The God-Generals usually were so serious.
βYouβre looking well today,β he said.Β βI hadnβt seen you here earlier. Did you just get back?β
