I think "Palpatine" will not really be Palpatine. Rather an echo of Palpatine that's part of an artifact he made. Look up Lord Momin.
Yeah, I like the idea that Palpatineās āreturnā is of an echo of him rather than a real Palpatineāit brings him back without invalidating Anakin and Lukeās sacrifices/deeds.Ā I think it might be more along the lines of Darth Baneās ghost on Moraband in TCW, though. Ā I just remembered that the Sith temple on Moraband contained Darth Baneās tomb, which is why he showed up, and in the trailer it seems like they find the wreckage of the Death Star, so my guess is that Palpatine is somehow bound there like Darth Bane was since thatās his ātomb.ā
Another thing was that Darth Baneās ghost was actually just an illusion and ānot realā as Yoda stated, a test for Yoda to learn more about the Force, so Iām also thinking that the trio is on some kind of quest to gain some kind of truth or help, and they are somehow confronted by Palpatineās echo. Or possible an artifact as you suggest, and idk if youāre the same anon but another anon said Georgeās original ep VII involved a Palpatine artifact, and I read that JJ talked to George, so that really might be the case.
