Now that I'm out of school and have more time to research topics I like on my own time, I think I'm going to be visiting my pal Anna pretty often to hit up her extensive digital Archive. She can have pretty long waitlists sometimes and my constant nagging probably makes her suspicious of me, but she's been able to help me find a lot of PDFs I wouldn't otherwise have access to.

Here’s a continuation—a series of short vignettes showing how Astrid and Fandral navigate love like it’s a battlefield they’ve decided to share:
---
1. Morning Routine Chaos
Astrid emerges from her study in a black silk robe, ink on her fingers and a scowl already brewing.
Fandral, shirtless as ever, is in the kitchen attempting to make breakfast. Something is smoking.
“You’re using magic to toast bread?” she asks flatly.
“It’s efficient,” he says, poking at it with his dagger.
“It’s arson.”
“You say that like it’s not charming.”
She waves a hand, extinguishes the fire, and kisses his cheek before stealing the least-burned slice.
“Menace,” she mutters fondly, disappearing back into her study.
He grins like he’s won.
---
2. Middle of the Day Miscommunication
They cross paths in the palace corridor between council meetings.
Astrid, exasperated: “You didn’t answer my note.”
Fandral, oblivious: “What note?”
“The one I charmed to fly into your bath.”
“Oh! That was yours?” He frowns. “I thought it was an assassin’s message. I stabbed it.”
She closes her eyes. “You stabbed my diplomatic schedule?”
“To be fair, your handwriting does look like a curse.”
She glares. He smiles. She’s no longer mad.
---
3. Late-Night Vulnerability (But Make It Awkwardly Theirs)
They lie tangled on her bed, the candles nearly burned down.
She’s half-asleep, head on his chest.
“I never thought I’d have this,” she murmurs.
Fandral kisses the top of her head. “What? A breathtaking man beside you, adoring you in every possible way?”
“No,” she mutters. “Peace. Safety. You.”
He’s silent a long moment.
Then: “I love you, Astrid.”
“I know.”
He chuckles. “You could at least pretend you’re surprised.”
“I’m still deciding if I believe it.”
“Cruel woman.”
“Yours.”
He pulls her closer. They fall asleep like that.
---
4. Argument—Make-up—Repeat
Astrid slams a book shut. “You cannot offer to duel senators for offending my honour!”
“I absolutely can,” Fandral fires back. “It’s very traditional.”
“It’s asinine!”
He leans in, voice low and grinning. “You love it when I’m gallant.”
“I tolerate it.”
“You blush every time.”
She throws a cushion at him.
He catches it, crosses the room, and kisses her senseless.
“Truce?” he whispers.
“Fine,” she murmurs. “But next time, duel someone I don’t need alive.”
---
They’re soft, chaotic, wildly in love—and neither of them knows how to be normal about it.
