Fans of RAE SLOANE will have to right the reason why they want a BLACK WOMAN the evil villain in a STAR WARS movie and justify it to the fans who would be okay with that. She will NEVER be given the same deference as EMPEROR PALPATINE or DARTH VADER. NEVER. EVER. That means the way it’s written and comes off will show implicit bias and stereotype for something new. VERY FEW BLACK WOMEN are shown to be villains in TENTPOLE movies or PRIME TIME TV SHOWS. But there are quite a few actresses who want to do it and could do it, successfully. Then the director. Can HE or SHE be fair to a space opera? That is s different kind of filmmaking than say EMPIRE (TV SHOW) or --- there is no equivalent movie... It has not been done. If it could be sold that it is the character defect flaw in the person who happens to be a BLACK WOMAN this time, then the diverse audience (meaning Black Woman audience) would believe it and suspension of disbelief and wonderment can be tapped into. BUT...if it’s just making Black women the excuse to be a villain in a Star Wars movie because of misogynoirity and hatred of us, then hayle no, I’m not going to watch that movie. Besides, in A NEW DAWN by John Jackson Miller, she’s not written that way at all. In the AFTERMATH series, she’s not written that way at all. So please, USE STRONG CORRELATES to the books with reference.
