the most tangible legal outcome in the US of the shooting of Brian Thompson so far, beyond the court case of Luigi Magione, really is merely a lawsuit from UnitedHealth shareholders, against the company they partly own, about UnitedHealth not telling the shareholders that UnitedHealth was going to increase the rate of insurance claim denials in the wake of the shooting, because executives anticipated people trying to drop their UnitedHealth plans over subsequent quarters, and wanted to get in a few quarters of higher returns as that happened.
To be clear, the lawsuit wasn't that UnitedHealth did that, it was over them violating their fiduciary duty to shareholders by UnitedHealth not telling the shareholders they were doing that.
It hasn't been any kind of policy reform. Certainly no form of government intervention into the ~healthcare marketplace~, or any actual lawmaking. Merely investors and their retained law firm, arguing before a judge, trying to make money in civil court by arguing they were defrauded by one of the world's 10 most valuable companies, because one of the world's 10 most valuable companies wasn't totally honest to its shareholders about how it was planning to be evil.
However, that's hardly to say the event hasn't been highly influential.
