After several years of deadly strikes and destruction by the Israeli army, Gaza's surviving population is struggling to meet basic needs. As of late December—even after some humanitarian aid channels opened in October—over 75% of the population of Gaza is living in acute hunger. In spite of this severe need, the US has been cutting its international humanitarian aid.

Gaza Soup Kitchen strives to meet this acute need by preparing hot meals at ten kitchen sites across Gaza, serving 3,000 people daily. Operating amidst unimaginable scarcity and risk, their team works tirelessly to prepare and serve hot, nourishing meals. A grassroots initiative led and staffed by Gazans, GSK's teams prepare simple vegetarian meals, relying primarily on donations for ingredients.

The status of immigrants in the U.S. has been a human rights battleground for years, but under Trump's DHS, the crisis has reached unprecedented levels, with ICE conducting violent raids and terroristic "surge" operations in sanctuary cities. Tens of thousands of people have been detained and deported without due process or even a warrant, in violation of their constitutional rights. Immigration detention centers are sites of abuse and inhumane conditions with some inmates dying in custody and others disappearing. It's clear that the U.S. immigration system is in dire need of reform, and immigrants need support to protect their legal and human rights.

The mission of The National Immigrant Justice Center is to establish and defend the legal rights of immigrants regardless of background and transform the immigration system to one that affords equal opportunity for all.

They provide direct legal services to low-income immigrants, as well as working for policy changes to protect human rights through advocacy, impact litigation, and public outreach. Their transparency project uses federal Freedom of Information Act and local open records laws to combat secrecy and expose systemic abuse in the U.S. immigration detention and enforcement system. They are a leading legal service provider defending the rights of unaccompanied immigrant children.

In recent years, far-right extremist and hate movements motivated by white supremacy, xenophobia, anti-LGBTQ+ beliefs, antisemitism, anti-Muslim sentiment, religious discrimination, anti-woman activity, and gender bias have been growing across the globe (US numbers here).

The consequence of the growth in these movements is violence and the dangerous integration of bigoted and racist ideas into societal discourse, government policies, and political platforms. Increasingly, as far-right extremist movements have gained in strength, established taboos around far-right extremism have collapsed as mainstream political parties cooperate with extremists once considered out of bounds.

The growth of the far-right is the root cause for why we cannot move forward on so many global challenges from racial and social justice to critical issues such as the climate crisis. This rise of white supremacy, transnational hate and far-right extremism is perhaps the greatest threat to inclusive societies and democracies worldwide.

The Global Project Against Hate and Extremism believes that to protect and advance human rights, particularly those of marginalized and underrepresented communities, build inclusive democracies, and solve global challenges, they must expose and counter the far-right actors and movements that undermine those values. They employ research, advocacy, activism, and education to counter the rising tide of extremism across borders.

Climate crisis is here, and it’s urgent. Rising global temperatures and shrinking wildlands have caused a cascade of disasters for humans and non-humans alike. But although some of the effects of climate change are beyond the point of reversal, many can still be rolled back or avoided entirely – if we all work together.

The Environmental Integrity Project uses legal expertise and technical analysis to combat air and water pollution, challenge permits that are too lax to protect public health, take legal actions against big polluters, advocate for stronger regulations, and release reports and data to inform the public about the many problems caused by fossil fuels. They also scrutinize the water and air emissions from factory farms, and use this data as part of their national efforts to push the EPA to more closely regulate the pollution that livestock and agricultural runoff dump into our waterways.

With the rollback of Biden-era programs, looming Medicaid work requirements, and the continuing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, disabled Americans are facing more hurdles than ever before -- both practical limits on their access to shared services and spaces and assaults on their dignity. Those hurdles are compounded at the intersection of other systems of harm.

Disability Law United (formerly The Civil Rights Education and Enforcement Center) is a nonprofit legal organization that fights for liberation and equity through the lens of intersectional disability justice. Their work is informed by grassroots movements for systemic change and centers on the concerns and goals of people with disabilities who are confronting barriers to accessing programs and services and resisting oppressive legal systems in the United States. 

Disability Law United’s legal expertise in the disability-rights frameworks of the ADA and the Rehabilitation Act allows them to move the dial for intersectional disability justice across a variety of systems that deny the humanity, dignity, and agency of disabled people. They further their aims through a combination of public education, coalition and policy work, systemic-change litigation, direct legal services, and technical assistance to movement leaders and community-based partners, strengthening social movements and upholding human rights. 

They focus on supporting and defending disabled people who are experiencing discrimination and exclusion at the intersection of other systems of harm. Their work encompasses improving access to public services and spaces, disaster and environmental justice, immigration, and incarceration and policing.

Each year, our supported orgs list offers about a dozen nonprofits to support, plus the umbrella category. We try to keep the number small(ish) so that our donations can have the biggest impact, and we try to rotate new orgs in so that our participants can find out about them.

It's a heartbreaking process, every year: we always end up rotating out excellent organizations who work on extremely important causes, including some organizations that are close to the mods' hearts. We've already gotten a few emails about orgs or causes from recent years that didn't make it onto this year's list.

And so, although we believe deeply in everything on the 2026 supported orgs list (and still think it's a good idea to concentrate our collective efforts in order to make the biggest impact we can!) we did want to share the links to a handful of orgs that you may recognize from recent years.

Our policy on non-listed organizations allows creators to add one nonprofit of their own choosing, as long as they also choose at least three from the current year's list. You don't have to write anything in! But if you're feeling a sense of a gap as you look over this year's list, the collection of old friends listed below might be a good way to bridge the gap.

It's no secret that the quickest way to find out who will benefit from public policy is to follow the money. Wealthy donors and Super-PACS exercise tremendous control over U.S. politics, especially since the Supreme Court ruled in Citizens United that corporations and other special interests could spend unlimited money on elections. Some of that spending is reported transparently in public documents, and some is "dark money", funneled through nonprofits and shell companies who are not required to disclose their donors' identities.

Open Secrets' mission is to serve as the trusted authority on money in American politics. They pursue their mission by providing comprehensive and reliable data, analysis and tools for policymakers, storytellers and citizens. Their vision is for Americans to use data on money in politics to create a more vibrant, representative and responsive democracy.

Open Secrets pursues their mission with three goals: creating clean, curated, accessible and timely datasets on money in politics; producing and publishing analysis and reports, as well as user-friendly tools to navigate those datasets; and fueling conversation among journalists, policymakers, and other citizens who are paying attention to money in US politics. Their user-friendly website is the front door for engaging with data on money in politics. There, you can find a wellspring of resources on elections, politicians, campaign raising and spending, lobbying, learning tools and analysis. OpenSecrets also regularly works with media outlets and journalists to provide exclusive data and analysis to power investigations alongside their own original reporting.
