No Two Cleanrooms Are the Same – Why Custom Fabrication Is the Only Compromise-Free Solution
When the procurement is for a cleanroom, there is a danger, and indeed a strong one, that what is purchased will simply be standard, off-the-shelf equipment that is used in a different context. The budget crunch is very painful. The advantages of using standard stock for lead time appear to be attractive. At first glance, the distinction between a regular workbench and a workbench made by hand might be hard to appreciate.
Well trained cleanroom designers and facility managers are aware of what that compromise translates to in practice. The standard equipment that does not fit the space exactly means that there are gaps in the space where contamination can collect. Non-continuous welded and ground joints and seams are sites that trap particles which cannot be cleaned. If the materials are not properly identified with the cleaning agents used, these materials will eventually wear out, develop surface irregularities, and thus undermine contamination control. The savings you have made in the short-term turn into long-term issues.
Cleanroom custom 16 fabrications completely remove that compromise; fabricating equipment from the ground up that is specified from the start to be as specific as the environment in which it will operate, and engineered to perform as it should throughout the service life of the installation.
What Cleanroom Custom Fabrication from Superlift Actually Delivers
Custom fabrication for controlled environments is not just about having standard equipment in non-standard sizes. It is a complete engineering process that starts with a detailed understanding of the client's operational needs, regulatory requirements, spatial limitations, workflow requirements, cleaning protocols, and material specifications and then designs and builds equipment that meets every need, no matter what.
Superlift's 16 fabrications capability is customised for the manufacture of all controlled environment furniture and fitout components, such as workbenches, clean benches (304 or 316 stainless steel), pass through units, equipment support frames, storage solutions, trolleys and special material handling solutions for controlled environments.
All fabrications start with thorough communication with the client's engineering, facilities and quality teams. Measurements are taken on dimensions with accuracy. The grade of the material is properly identified according to the chemical exposure classification of the environment. The surface finishes are given to meet the cleanroom classification requirement. Building techniques are verified and recorded (including continuously welded seams and ground and polished finishes and radiused internal corners).
This enables the equipment to be fully integrated into the cleanroom environment, to be used to effectively control contamination and to continue to operate normally throughout the daily use of the cleanroom without degradation of surfaces or structural damage.
