He open and closes his fists, looking down at them as he flexes his fingers. He can feel it inside of him. That innate power he was gifted with at birth. It’s there, like a powder keg waiting to go off. All it needs is a spark.

He closes his eyes, clenching his fists. A spark. Ignite it. Burn. Explode outwards, show them what you can do.

But there’s nothing. He can’t call it forth.

While he loves the Cyberse Monsters from his world with all of his metaphorical heart, he can’t deny that the animals in this world are so soft and nice to pet.

He’s seen Duel Monsters modeled after wolves before, but here is a real life wolf with some of the whitest fur he’s ever seen on an animal. Not deterred by his earlier experience with the Netpups at all, he reaches up to pet the seemingly friendly animal. 

“What a good pooch! And you’re such a cutie, yes you are! Look how fluffy and pure your coat is!” He continues to coo while he pats her and she seems to enjoy the attention, so he tentatively wraps his small arms partway around her neck in a hug. She moves slowly and carefully so as to not knock him down, he notices. She must be an awfully smart animal. His hand brushes something metallic buried in her thick fur and pulls back to look at the name tag.

“Someone named you ‘Amaterasu’? Like, after the sun goddess? That’s adorable~ It’s a fitting name as well, even if it is a bit of a mouthful, what with you being all shiny white and warm!”

“I’ve got a Japanese name too! It’s ‘Ai’, meaning ‘love’.”

Wait... Weren’t animals with collars supposed to belong with someone?

‘Mommy I wanna pet the doggy!’

‘Sal, honey, don’t stray too far!’

[ 🎸 ] --The memory quickly came and went, but it was enough for an uncomfortable pit in his stomach to form once he realized how close this dog was getting. ...Was a this a dog? Looked bigger than a dog. ...Was that worse? Yeah, probably. He didn’t hate dogs though. It wasn’t their fault. But he was uncomfortable around them for a good reason.

Seeing as how he’s never gotten to eat human food before, he’s definitely never participated in something as human as having a picnic. Ai found an old blanket in his apartment, picked a sunny spot in the park among all of the colorful trees, and then gone around to every nearby restaurant collecting food. He didn’t know what he liked, so he ordered anything that sounded interesting or that he’d heard of before. Soon, he had amassed quite the collection, far more than he could ever eat. Of course, he did give it his best effort before giving up.

Feeling very full, he was currently warming himself in the autumn sun. Human skin was apparently far more difficult to keep warm than the light molecules that usually made up his body. He was beginning to grow restless when he realized the one element his picnic was missing: company! From what he’d seen in movies, people usually attended these types of events with friends and family.

Just then, a very pale woman carrying an umbrella with a sun on it began to pass by and Ai called out to her, waving exuberantly.

“Hi there! Do you want to join me, or maybe just take some food with you? I ordered way too much.” He laughed. “I’ve never tried food for hu- ah, I mean... food with hibiscus tea before,” he gestured to one of the many to-go cups. “I guess my eyes were too big for my stomach.”

                He could not help but stare -- the dog reminded him SO MUCH of that tricky fox he had run across during the Reaper’s Game he needed to look around again to ensure the unfamiliar city was not some strange version of Shibuya being affected by the game itself. Approaching cautiously he squinted at the animal asking carefully, “    Uh, good doggy?    ”
