This ship honestly started as just a crack ship for me but it's turned into a main pairing now XD XD
IDK what it is about them that just draws me in but ugh!
I'm sort of imagining that they met at Redgrass but Maekar was a wife guy and wouldn't have betrayed Dyanna. So, they just made eyes at each other from afar. Then Dyanna passed away and Maekar threw himself into drowning his sorrows (Daeron learned that from someone at the start of it all) and Lyonel's the one who draws him back out. But they tell no one.
Lyonel builds up his image as the Laughing Storm, throws massive parties that sometimes turn into orgies and no one realises that Lyonel always slips away without being drawn into it. No one has realised Lyonel always manages to find an excuse to slip away from everyone vying for his hand or his bed. He always builds up the idea that he's antagonistic with the Targs, and Maekar in particular.
Maekar meanwhile, pretends like he doesn't even know Lyonel exists, right up until he has no choice in acknowledging him. He always rolls his eyes at Lyonel's antics, and complains about the bullshit the Laughing Storm gets up to.
Then behind closed doors it all falls away. Maekar softens to let Lyonel in, and Lyonel treats that trust with the seriousness it deserves. They're so soft and cute together, no one would believe if the saw them!
