I don't like how the Naruto sub and dub can be so different it changes characterization. This woman almost becomes a hostage, sub says she threatens to hurt herself if they take her son because they want a live hostage. In dub she's js begging for her life. Also an earlier scene kakashi is like pleased with the kids but the dub says they drive him crazy, still a bit loving though. But he's smiling like the sub!!!

Beyblade Season 1 Episode 1 Deleted Scenes
While rewatching episode 1 in Japanese, I'm seeing some scenes that I don't recognize from the English version. These are mostly centered around Tyson's grandpa. In the Japanese version, when Takao leaves the dojo in the beginning of the episode, grandpa ruminates on how Takao's mother died and his father and brother are away working as archaeologists. This background info was taken out of the dub. Later, when grandpa watches Takao train, he mentions Takao having the eyes of a samurai. Which honestly, I think would've been perfectly fine to keep in the dub. They couldn't really hide him being Japanese with the dojo. But even if it was just for comic relief, they replaced grandpa's dialogue with "he's just as fly as I am". xD
(re)watching gachiakuta now with my long-term weekly anime crew. i watched the first season as it aired and dropped it in the hat right afterwards... and it won last week's poll. my previous recs haven't all gone over so well; i know my adoration for surrealism that plummets into mindfuckery, toxic yuri and slower-paced stories places me firmly in the minority in any group of anime fans. i still kinda feel bad for subjecting everyone to revolutionary girl utena, serial experiments lain and the first episode of manyuu hikenchou.
gachiakuta, however, is none of those things. it's a shÅnen fighting series with a cool scavenger punk-meets-inner city bent and an arrestingly spiky art style. kei urana-sensei's worldbuilding, character writing, sensitive treatment of traumatic subject matter and utterly unbothered sense of pacing left scuff marks on my soul. so far, everyone else too seems to be enjoying the story; i'm grateful.
can i talk a bit about black representation in anime? it's rare and it's not great. given the infinitesimal african diaspora demographic there and the flood of american media disrespect for us, this is understandable. so i always find it refreshing to see black anime characters whose blackness passes without comment. gachiakuta so far has three. all of them are badasses who just... happen to be black.
one of them, the unhinged masochist jabber wonger, became one of my favorite villains ever after i heard his english VA zeno robinson's performance. no shade, ever, on his seiyuu yÅ«ki shin-sanāwho came in already packing heat on grounds of sheer insanityābut robinson? this fucker brought a panzer tank. there is no contest. hear this for yourself.

Now that Iāve gotten used to the Japanese voices for Persona 5 I think if anyone asks me if they should play in dub or sub Iāll just respond like this

Alright time for another rant/hot take.
I consider myself pretty lenient whether dub or sub. Sometimes I prefer dub, sometimes I prefer sub.
For example, I like Assassination Classroomās dub more because itās easier to hear each individual student.
However.
I absolutely CANNOT stand Mairimashita, Iruma-Kunās english dub.
And it is for one reason specifically.
THIS. FUCKING. LION.
This is a scene with his sub voice.
And this is a scene with his dub voice.
Everyone elseās voices areā¦ fine, mostly. Some fit better than others.
But Allocerās voice in the dub justā¦ feels so wrong. It feels like heās lost the intelligent charm that the sub created. He sounds silly, and it drives me up the wall!!
And I know his voice actor is capable of playing an intelligent character because of THIS.
It is the SAME VOICE ACTOR.
And even disregarding that, there are several other voice actors that I think couldāve fit Allocer more.
The resident āintelligent manā voice actor, J. Michael Tatum, the One Winged Angelās voice actor, Tyler Hoechlin, or hell even Matt fucking Mercer, the voice of resident sleepy vampire man Vincent.
It feels like they didnāt give the Landon McDonald (the VA) a clear direction for Allocer and let him make the voice based on his appearance.
Like I physically cringe every time I hear Allocerās English voice. I love Allocer, I love his character, I love his arc, I love his relationship with Jazz. But the voiceā¦ I just canāt man. I just canāt.
Edit: So I just realized that Allocerās VA, Landon McDonald, ALSO voices Baraki (broadcast battler leader), and the New Magic Battler leader. And whatās worse is neither of them sound as ridiculous as Allocer. So I am even more mad now.

He opens the door almost with "I'm home" cuts himself off, and then says "excuse me"
Which is very polite for taichi.HEY. when he was seven, he opened the door with "I'm home" which was the SAME episode where the accident with Kari happened.HEY.

Yeah meanwhile the dub doesn't have any of these things happen.like at all..
