Reaction to āMister Agresteā (S6, E9)
Great glorious day, how long have we waited! I made a point of dropping in for the .to broadcast to be among the first to see it!
Sometimes itās easy to forget that Luka wasnāt just Marinetteās secret-keeperāhe was Adrienās as well.
Marinette isnāt tortured just by the Big Secret; she also feels guilty about Luka. Not only did she break his heart, but she feels responsible for him carrying the burden of both hers and Chat Noirās secret identities, and for having to leave his family. She has absolutely no one she can talk to anymore. Alya got so freaked out by the Big Secret she demanded a memory wipe (see āRevelatorā). And as for Luka, heās got a whole new life on the other side of the Atlantic. So now sheās talking to everyone in the form of Freudian slips that thankfully no one seems to register.
If Adrien suspects Plagg isnāt telling him everything he remembers, he doesnāt pursue it. Heās used to Plagg not giving him straight answers.
Weāve missed a few episodes, so we donāt know how exactly the first statue of Gabriel Agreste (presumably the one we saw dedicated in the season 5 finale) was destroyed.
Adrienās dilemma matches the disconnect felt by so many abused and neglected children: natural inborn filial attachment mixed with confusion and pain, clinging to moments of kindness that ultimately cannot obscure the prevailing theme of manipulation and cruelty. Itās even worse when that parent is a public figure who only reveals their true self to the people closest to them⦠the people least in a position to fight back.
Who exactly was that sitting in the occasional chair in the corner, watching Marinette console Adrien? Could it be our least favorite disguise artist?
Nathalie may be Marinetteās new secret-keeper, but she is no confidant, at least not here. She treats Marinette like a fellow conspirator in a crime drama, subtly threatening her not to squeal to anyone because theyāre both āin too deepā. Her reasoning makes sense, which Marinette ultimately understands and concedes. Furthermore, her emotion obviously comes from a place of fear mixed with love. But her demeanor leaves much to be desired.
At first, I got excited that Luka found someone new after all⦠and I was immediately let down. But IrupĆ© genuinely seems to care for Luka⦠maybe sheād like to be more than just Lukaās beard?
The real tragedy of what Monarch did, and what Chrysalis is now doing, is that it makes feeling or expressing an emotion a risk. Talk too much about your feelings, or even experience them too deeply, and you could become a monster that attacks everyone and everything you love, all while being exploited by an evil entity that wants to use your pain as a weapon. Luka realizes his lingering desire for Marinette could not only ruin her chance for happiness with Adrien. Indirectly, it could destroy the world. The only way to protect his friends, his family, and his city was to leave them all behind. And itās obvious that lying hasnāt gotten any easier for Luka; it goes against his nature.
The full-body shots of Luka allow us to appreciate his physique in full. He still has those thin fingers and long limbs, befitting the holder of the Snake, and a lean core peeking out from beneath the shirt.
The Ladybug-Snake fusion looks fierce, with echoes of Marinetteās Shadyverse civilian look. Too bad weāre seeing it only briefly, and under such dire circumstances.
Luka and Marinette both already understood that the Snake Miraculous let the user hit ārewindā and tape over a conversation. That was the original game plan for providing Su-Han with Chat Noirās civilian identity, only Marinette changed things up at the last minute. Now theyāre using it to speak, then erase, truths they canāt share.
Lukaās reaction wasnāt any more encouraging than that of Alya. Just what was Luka planning to do with the Ladybug Miraculous? Was he planning to hunt down Chrysalis himself, or reveal the Big Secret? Either way, Marinette didnāt like what Luka had planned, and now thatās one less safe person on an already short list.
Once again, Adrien accidentally triggers Theoās akumatization. Perhaps Theo Barbotās outrage is just as much about his idol being slandered as it is his pride being hurt. His statue of Gabriel Agreste, built to the dimensions in the model, would rival the Eiffel Tower in height, making him world-famous.
Chrysalis, ever the ham, mimics the poses of various famous sculptures as she brainwashes Theo to her cause. āThe Thinkerā and Michelangeloās āDavidā are the first and most obvious. Can you name the others?
āYouāre⦠youāre no oneās father!ā
Past episode callbacks: Chat Noir cataclysming Mister Agresteās arm is almost exactly what happened in Season 5ās āDestructionā, and the scenes where Ladybug decapitates and wire-cuts Mister Agreste are callbacks to other episodes where Marinette fought statues of heroes and public figures (āThe Puppeteer 2ā in Season 3 and āDeterminationā in Season 5).
At first, Marinette calls up three Lucky Charms that wonāt help, or at least she canāt figure out what to do with them. Sheās not thinking straight after her trip to Brazil. But as often happens, a Lucky Charm that seemed useless at first ends up being the silver bullet.
Adrien defeats Mister Agreste not as Chat Noir, but as himself, with the truth as his only weapon. He finally gets to blow the whistle on his publicly sainted father while confronting the hurt and anger heās held inside. The collapse of that statue didnāt hit the ground as hard as that dropped bullhorn. But for all the catharsis it offered, it still didnāt resolve Adrienās greatest question: how a person so outwardly noble could be so terrible to his own child.
āSometimes itās better to put ideals rather than people on a pedestal, because you never truly know someone.ā
One of the most compelling aspects of Ladybug and Chat Noirās relationship is that they support each other as superheroes and friends, despite not knowing each otherās true identity.
Itās never explained why Luka, Jagged, Penny, and Su-Han ended up in Brazil as opposed to anywhere else. The real-world reason is obvious: the show has a huge following in Brazil, and the Brazilian childrenās channel Gloob gets all the episode premieres before anyone else does. Is it any wonder that one of the forthcoming specials will be āMiraculous Rioā? But the stinger suggests an in-universe explanation: Su-Han knew there was a secret Miraculous holder in Brazil who could shelter him and his companions. Naturally, Su-Han introduced Luka to IrupĆ©, and then Luka somehow roped her into⦠whatever this is. Iām betting that since her Kwami is a hummingbird, IrupĆ©ās Miraculous power is related to flight.
Miraculous: did ladybug, viperion and su-hun inadvertently end up killing people in the episode āEphemeralā?
As you all know in the episode āEphemeralā, su-Han threw a childish temper tantrum because chat noir didnāt show up to ONE akuma attack. ONE! Out of how many times chat hadnāt showed up to a fight in the past, NOW heās pitching a hissy fit like a little baby?! Apparently, it never occurred to anyone that there might be REALLY good LEGITIMATE reasons why chat couldnāt come to the fight?!
Sure, WE all know why chat didnāt show. (And it was a good reason. Do his stupid fatherās job and handle HIS responsibility for him while he goes and plays villain. If Adrien ditches, he risks exposing his secret identity to hawk moth. He didnāt have a choice.)
But there are other reasons why someone canāt show for a fight. REALLY GOOD REASONS!
Like for example: what if Adrien was strolling along down the street when the akumatized bob came along and actually turned him into a coin?!
Didnāt think of that possibility did you su-Han?!
Thereās also another reason which I had imagined as an AU version for chat noirās alternate secret identity.
What if there was a family emergency happening, like say his father or Natalie were having a heart attack and he had to call an ambulance and get them to the hospital?!
When you got a family emergency, family takes priority over duties!
Hereās another reason I canāt believe no one in the episode thought about. It honestly pisses me off to no end that these people in the show are so self centered, so inconsiderate, uncaring, self-absorbed and selfish that no one even once considered the possibility that chat noir might be in trouble or hurt!!!
Seriously! Chat doesnāt answer or respond to texts and their first thought is he is jerking his duties?! Really?
Not āis he ok?! Is he in trouble?! Is he hurt somewhere?!ā No worries that chat might have been attacked or captured by shadowmoth?! Really?! no genuine concern about his well-being?! That never once crossed their god damn fuckin minds?!
Fuckin bunch of asshole, dick brained, shit faced, shit eating, piece of crap jackasses who doesnāt even give a rats ass about chat noir!
Chat doesnāt deserve this shit!
Chat deserves better than these waste of heros!
Supposed good guys who abuse the power of the miraculous for selfish deceptive gain that causes nothing but disaster. World ending disaster! Life ending disaster!
Which brings me to the topic of my posts.
The death of innocent Parisians.
Remember when ladybug came up with that stupid idiotic idea to trick chat into revealing his identity to her and then have viperion rewind time so that only heād know and he could tell that man child su-Han?
Remember how that whole plan went to hell? Sass had to turn back time without a holder and caused everything in Paris that ran on time to go haywire.
Ladybug and chat noir had to fix everything so that everything that ran on time was back on track.
She used her miraculous ladybug and āfixed everythingā. No t-Rex, no giant gorilla, everything was back to normalā¦
Or so she thought.
Let me tell you something about hospitals.
In hospitals, there are machines that run on time to work.
Machines like heart machines, ventilators and life support machines. As well as Machines in a surgery room meant to keep patients alive while the doctor operates. Dialysis machines meant to filter blood and put it back in the patientās body.
If any of these machines stop working or goes haywire, a patient WILL DIE!
With that said, how many patients do you think ended up going into cardiac arrest during that time freak out event? How many patients were on the operating table when sass used his power?
Do you really think ladybugs power can undo death? And even if she somehow got all the machines working again and ārevivedā the dead patients somehow, do you really think the ones on the operating table will still have a chance?
By the time ladybugs power does its thing, the doctors will have already pronounce the patient dead, disconnected all the machines, IVs and other stuff, covered the body and wheeled them out to take them to the morgue. If that person does get revived, it will only to be to die a second time because the doctors canāt rush them back to the operating room and plug them back in just to finish operating on them fast enough.
To make it clear, ladybug, viperion and especially su-Han are all responsible for the deaths of all those patients at the hospitals.
I know this is a kids show and that there arenāt supposed to be deaths in the show. But considering they killed off Gabriel and his wife, that excuse flies out the door. And Iām talking realistically. In a realistic scenario on how these powers work. Realistically, you canāt save everyone. thereās always gonna be a price. In the avengers endgame, they brought back everyone who was snapped away but in exchange black widow died. Thereās always gonna be loss of life. And when using the miraculous for selfish gain or using it irresponsibly, Itās the punishment for making these types of mistakes. Life isnāt that kind.
And even if ladybugās power did fix some or all of these deaths, the fact still remains. THEY STILL GOT THESE PEOPLE KILLED. THEY DIED! AND THEY WILL MOST LIKELY REMEMBER WHAT IT FELT LIKE TO DIE!
These people will most likely be suffering life long trauma from the experience and will be going to therapy.
I especially blame su-Han cause he knew better, heās SUPPOSED TO BE AN ADULT, but acts like a little baby and didnāt stop to think about the consequences of his actions or what he was complaining about like a mature responsible adult.
He is single handedly responsible for the akumatization of master FU. And now heās escalated to orchestrating the deaths of dozens if not hundreds of sick or injury Parisians in hospitals!
Heād kill it playing goat simulator!
He gives chat noir a hard time. But he has fucked up tens time worse then chat noir ever could with his cataclysm!
su-Han is the real liability here in the show. Every time heās shown up, disaster follows!
Ladybug I blame partially. Because she didnāt put up enough of an argument against su-Han and she actually decided to try and trick chat noir instead of actually TALKING to him like an honest responsible adult would do. She resorted to trickery instead of honesty. Which was wrong. And she ended up causing world ending consequence over it. This is why I think she is a terrible ladybug and guardian. She doesnāt handle anything like a responsible adult. Tricking your partner instead of talking to him and being honest with him is not how healthy partnerships work! I promise you she wouldnāt make the cut on team voltron. Voltron requires trust, openness and honesty to be able to form voltron. She canāt even be open and honest with chat noir.
Viperion, I donāt have anything negative to say about him. That guy is a saint. Sure he also could have spoken up and stood up for chat but in his defense, su-Han is a celestial guardian and supposedly an āadult figureā, so from his perspective, the adult is probable right. He also doesnāt know what su-Han did the last time he showed up. He also doesnāt know about the full weight of the responsibilities of the snake miraculous do to not being a permanent holder yet. You canāt really blame him for not knowing anything about what happens when you use a miraculous irresponsibility.
All in all, su-Han is bad roll model and should not be aloud to interact with children.
Ladybug needs to stop with the lies and deception.
And viperion needs more screen time and character development in this show.
AND chat noir deserves more love and respect from everyone! Seriously!
Also no more abusing the snake miraculousās power! It only ends badly!
And I still think su-Han is a baby man child. Heās like Sheldon cooper. Always has to throw his weight around and demand people do what he says. Just. Like. Sheldon. Cooper.ļæ¼
Oh, interesting. So, Marinette's a loner and a more responsible Guardian of the Miraculous. Does Su-Han take her under his wing to proper train her to her role as a Guardian?
I wouldnāt necessarily say sheās a more responsible Guardian; sheās 100% more paranoid though.
I wanted to post this comic before the release of season 5 but I didn't have the time.
I just wanted to imagine how Su-han would be if he became a nicer person with Ladybug and Chat noir after the strike back episode.

You know, a person made the coment about how Gabriel shouldn't have been the main villain for so long, and I agree completely.
But besides Felix and Nathalie, there hasn't been a villain who is also a Miraculous holder, or at least who wishes the miraculouses of Ladybug and Chat Noir for themselves, which is... Strange, because we are talking about a wish to modify reality!
Many people, organizations, and even governments would want a piece of that! Hell, even Chloe would want some of that! Gabriel shouldn't have been the only person who was uncomfortable with his life! (And akumas do not count, because it has been well established that they are Monarch's VICTIMS)
You know what would have been great? More villains interested in the miraculouses when Gabriel was still around, you know why? Because it would not only challenge Marinette and cemented the idea of "Ladybug and Chat Noir against the WORLD", but would have also challenged GABRIEL, because now not only Gabriel would have to get Ladybug and Chat Noir's Miraculouses to get what he wants, now he would also have to get them FIRST.
Which means he would have to be on amert 24/7, becuase if it's not one of his akumas who gets the miraculouses, it would be another villain, WHICH HE CAN'T ALLOW, he would have to change his strategies, negotiate, scheme more, watch out for his own ass because he would also have people wanting to find out who he is, search for info, USE HIS BRAIN, and even serve as an excuse for Ladybug ans Chat Noir to find out who he is, because he would be dealing with so much shit he would get sloppy one day or another and give himself away!
It would have been a change of pace and made the show interesting because it would have challenged everyone, but somehow Thomas decides to take the most boring decisions for the show...
You know who could have been an interesting wild card to add to the show's rogues' gallery? Su-Han.
Think about it. He's the leader of the Order of the Guardians, the people connected to protecting the Miraculous, the show already hinted at the Guardians not being perfect due to how they caused Fu to accidentally destroy their temple, and Su-Han is trained in a martial art designed specifically to fight Miraculous users.
What if, instead of making sporadic appearances where he does nothing but yell at Ladybug, Su-Han starts opposing both Ladybug and Monarch's factions? What if he believes none of the characters should be using Miraculous, so he and the Guardians try to take away everyone's Miraculous?
That way, you'd have a third party threatening both the heroes and villains, a chance to expand on the show's lore, and possibly create situations where Ladybug and Cat Noir have to team up with Monarch.
Mirakung-fu training : Meditation
Jackie Chan Adventures vs Miraculous: Mentors
I think one of the easiest ways to point out how a show did something wrong is to use an example of how it's done right.
Today, I'm going to talk about how Master Fu from Miraculous is, from a writing stand point, a terrible mentor character.
For comparison, we'll be using Uncle from Jackie Chan Adventures, since they're both elderly Chinese men with similar backgrounds.
Role
In "Miraculous", Master Fu is the one who hands out Miraculouses, creates potions, etc.
In "Jackie Chan Adventures", Uncle is the resident chi wizard and lore expert who is essential to the team's success.
Training
As it turns out, Fu never actually completed his training. He doesn't actually know the things he's supposed to be teaching.
Conversely, Uncle is a fully-trained chi wizard who trained with one of the most renowned chi wizards of the time. He already knows enough to get the job done and teach it to others.
Learning
Fu never makes an effort to learn more about the Miraculouses until he got the Codex, which was ~80 years after the destruction of the temple, despite having access to over a dozen Miraculouses and their Kwamis. One of them, the Rooster, could grant powers if used cleverly.
When Uncle finds himself lacking in knowledge, he makes a point to learn what he needs to. He would never spend 80 years wallowing in his mistake instead of learning what he needs to.
Action
Fu was perfectly content to just watch things happen. He didn't offer advice, never showed up to help, and when Ladybug did go to him for help, she still had to figure most of it out herself.
He never tried to fix his mistake, even though he had 80 years and access to over a dozen Miraculouses and their Kwamis, including the aforementioned one that can grant powers.
Uncle is never content to watch things happen. If he's not in the fight, it's because he's preparing some kind of spell or ritual to help in the fight. And even then he's still usually giving Jackie, Jade, or Tohru instructions.
Relationship
Fu is a stranger to the heroes until the end of the first season. And after that, they still don't spend enough time around him to really have a natural mentor relationship with him.
Uncle, on the other hand, literally raised Jackie, had Jackie and Jade live with him for a bit, and is someone they see every day. He's a natural mentor for them.
Teaching
Fu never tries to teach Ladybug or Chat Noir anything. When Ladybug comes to him for another Miraculous, Fu leaves it to her to figure out what it does and who'd be a good fit for it.
For a mentor, Fu doesn't actually do much teaching.
Conversely, Uncle has no problems with teaching, even if he is selective about who he teaches.
He takes Tohru on as a chi wizard apprentice and taught Kung Fu to young Jackie.
He even taught Jade a spell or two when necessary.
Importance
The last point is how important each one is to the plot.
At the end of season 3, Fu renounces his role as guardian and is replaced with Su-Han, who then disappears "to get reinforcements".
The plot does not change much because neither of them is actually important to it.
On the other hand, Uncle cannot be replaced. There is an episode where Jade puts Uncle into a magical sleep and he's still so important to the plot that Jade has to go into his dreams to get the information she needs.
Uncle cannot be replaced or written out of the story and have it still be the same.
Conclusion
A good mentor character, from a writing stand point, is one who actually has things to teach, is important enough to the plot that removing them would actually affect the plot, and they help the heroes instead of just watching from the sidelines.
Master Fu from Miraculous doesn't meet those criteria.
