Living Harmony AU relevant character sheets/info: Harmony aka the "Tree of Harmony" Stygian Somnambula Starswirl the Bearded Shadow Lock is actually an official canon character from the IDW comics No. 51-53 and I really enjoyed his mini arc introduction enough to include him as a more significant part of my "Living Harmony" MLP AU animation project. When I found out he's a direct descendant of Stygian, one of the Pillars of Equestria, I had to find a way to work him in and give him a bit of an updated design to fit more into my story setting I have planned. My good friend Ori helped vector my finalized concept redesign in the very top image. Listed below is some character and story context for these sketches provided by my myself and Ori who's been a huge help in fleshing out the world building with this cast of characters I'm using in this AU so far. Shadow Lock's main abilities and canon backstory are expanded upon and/or flavored a bit differently here as well.

Church of Sol-

They worship the sun/day, light, order, and life. They think Celestia is their Goddess. Most often filled with day dwelling beings. Especially farmers. The sun is so important in their lives, it might as well be in charge if they have a livelihood that year!

Offerings to Celestia include sunflowers, flowers in general, part of a successful harvest, pots of tea, and baked goods. Often achieved by have a large get together at one of her temples and celebrating in her name.

Church of Shadow -

they worship the moon/night, darkness/shadows, chaos, and death. They think Luna is their Goddess. Most often filled with nocturnal beings. Especially those that study the night sky, and sea faring creatures who rely heavily upon the location of the moon and stars.

Offerings to Luna include moon flowers, star dust, maps of the night sky, and the most current and up to date astrological equipment.

Church of Harmony-

they worship everything that the Celestial sisters have to offer. They worship both sisters equally and treat them as such. They are two sides of the same coin, one would not exist without the other. In their opinion anyone who knows anything about the ancient historical texts would worship both of the sisters equally. They end up being a middleman between the other two churches of celestial quite often.

Cult of Magic-

This is religious movement based around the ancient texts that the celestial goddesses would adopt a unicorn child that has no magical alignment, and is just magic themselves. Born on the crux of day becoming night or vice versa.

They have been looking for their deity of magic for centuries ever since the ancient texts were first hastily translated. Some ponies thought to be their deity of magic include: Starswirl the Bearded, Stygian, Clover the Clever, Sunset Shimmer and her twin brother Sunburst, and Twilight Sparkle

They have indeed found their goddess it would seem. It’s too bad her elder brother has decided that he will not allow them to use her in their sick and twisted games of chess. Clearly this unicorn stallion and whoever is helping him stow her away from them has planted falsehoods in their dear goddesses ears!

All of the major pony villains are Nightmare Moon, Sunset Shimmer, Starlight Glimmer, Pony of Shadows, Tempest Shadow, Chancellor Neighsay, and Cozy Glow. All of them are unicorns (Luna is an alicorn, they have unicorn magic) except for Cozy, who's a pegasus. All of these villains got reformed… except for Cozy 🤔 

Ok, if Cozy were a unicorn, I figure her character would've been treated the same as she was. I don't actually think her harsher punishment has anything to do with her not being a unicorn, it's obviously just the writers wanting to subvert expectations (badly). But it's still an interesting thing to notice. 

Reminder: Discord and Starlight Glimmer were only given a second chance because of their unique magical powers.

Actual dialogue from the show:

Princess Celestia: But I have use for Discord's magic if it can be reformed to serve good instead of evil. This is why I've brought Discord here, because I believe that you are the ponies who can help him do just that.

Pinkie Pie: That Starlight must be pretty magical!

Twilight Sparkle: She obviously has more talent for magic than almost anypony I've seen. My magic couldn't stop her. I had to convince her to stop on her own. Once I realized that, everything fell into place.

Applejack: But if she's as powerful as all that, we can't just send her on her way, can we?

Twilight Sparkle: Actually, I kind of have something else in mind.
