16 things I learnt as a JC1 student
1. Friendships come and go
A bunch of your secondary school friends only talked to you because you were in the same class. It seemed like the girl you clicked well with during orientation would have stayed close to you the entire year, but she didn't- and that's okay.
2. Always respect your tutors, even if you don't like them
You never know when you might need a favour from them.
3. Never put off doing your tutorials or revision
Your future self would thank you if you just touched it once and finished it.
4. Be consistent and have a routine
Whether it be doing homework, notes, going for training/ practice or simply eating and sleeping.
5. Throw yourself at every opportunity
Try somethings new, there's no harm in trying.
6. Be yourself
People will remember you for being you, not someone else.
7. Materialistic things are just a trend
You don't need those shoes to be cool
8. Always find help early, clarify ALL doubts
Don't understand a small part during lecture? Ask your friend, tutor or lecturer. Book a consultation. Never brush it aside, it will only get worst.
9. It's okay to pack food to school
School food can be pricey and sometimes quite unhealthy.
10. Planning and prioritising is essential
You won't have time to finish all 10 practice papers your chemistry tutor gave you.
11. Be present
Have fun with your friends, appreciate them. Don't keep staring at your phone, scrolling through your feeds. Take lots of photos, it's only a matter of time until the year ends.
12. Go for those school concerts/ performances
It's worth it.
13. Be polite
Say please and thank you. Greet staff when they walk by you. Smile at people to acknowledge their presence.
14. Exercise
It makes you feel good.
15. Set small achievable goals periodically
You'll be amazed at how much you can achieve at the end of the year.
16. Write everything down
Be it reminders, test dates or lovely moments. You will forget, but you can always refer back to it.
