i’m feeling less stressed with class work, or at least feel like I have a better sense of how to place getting class work done...

BUT, now i’m super stressed about student org event planning and nonsense. and me, or rather me on behalf of our org, apparently tentatively reserved a big ballroom space in the university, (even though all I did was submit a reservation request!!! which did not seem ‘tentative’ or even confirmatory!!! it is literally called a request, not a valid for sure reservation!!!) so ANYWAY because it is now officially October and we want to cancel the event (and I didn’t even know it had been tentatively booked, because I missed an initial e-mail), our org now owes the IMU Event Services office $200 because we’re cancelling ‘within the same month as the event’. It’s October 2. The tentatively scheduled event in their space isn’t until Oct. 30.

Talk about needing to read the fine print.

Sooo I’m pretty pissed and we’ll probably just have to take the bullet and pay that amount, and take this as a hard, hard lesson learned. But holy shit this sucks.

And my advisor surely won’t be happy about it.

But I don’t really think there’s much else we can do.

The policy about $200 cancellation fee within the same month, that’s given AFTER you submit a request  for the space. And I had briefly read those details when booking OTHER spaces in that same building, but didn’t read the policy this time around because I wasn’t certain we were going to use that specific space and also didn’t understand that it was actually reserved.

It’s hard to explain the whole ordeal, but essentially: Read. The. Fine. Print. And ask questions EARLY. 

Me: I'm really frustrated that you brought the website live the way you did. We had explicitly agreed on completing our list of issues before bringing the website live. I found out it was live by mistake and then spent my entire Friday fixing stuff that had been left wrong for the 3 days it was up without anyone of the other officers knowing. This was really irresponsible of you and it's hard to trust you right now. I also feel like I just can't let this slide because it would set a standard for everyone else, so we need to figure out where to go from here.

Webmaster: I wanted a soft start and didn't know the website was live until the day after. It's so and sos fault for not answering all my questions and I don't appreciate being blamed for this

Me: so you didn't ask IT to bring up the website? They did it themselves?

Webmaster: no I asked them but this is all somehow someone else's fault. I keep trying my best and I don't need you getting mad at me all the time.

Me internally: so I shouldn't be mad or I shouldn't say that it's not okay to do irresponsible things??????

*end scene*

I then spent the next hour working something out with her so she wouldn't quit, but I have to admit I was relieved when I thought she was going to quit because I have done more on the website in the last 2 weeks than she has done in 3 months and I had no web development experience when I started and she always has an excuse for why she didn't do the bare minimum of her responsibilities. I know this is a student organization, but it's still super frustrating when we set these goals and agree on all these things and then it all gets thrown out the window and I feel obligated to clean up the mess and be accommodating because people are volunteering their time to do this and I cant do everything.
