βThere were then in England three pregnant Queens: the Queen Consort of King Henry [Katharine of Aragon]; his sister, the Queen widow of France, at present wife to the Duke of Suffolk [Mary]; and thirdly, the Queen widow of Scotland [Margaret]: so that three cousins of royal blood would be born well nigh at the same time.β
On the contemporaneous pregnancies of three queens at Henry VIII's court: Katharine of Aragon, Queen of England (wife of Henry VIII), Mary, Dowager Queen of France (wife of Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk, sister of Henry VIII), and Margaret, Dowager Queen of Scots (wife of Archibald Douglas, 6th Earl of Angus, sister of Henry VIII).

Katharine gave birth on 18th February 1516 to a daughter Mary, who later became Queen of England; Margaret gave birth on 8th October 1515 to a daughter Margaret Douglas, who later became Countess of Lennox; and Mary gave birth on 11th March 1516, to a son Henry Brandon, who died aged 6.

In 1603 Walter Raleigh was once again imprisoned in the Tower of London. He believed his death to be imminent, and penned this letter to his beloved wife, Bess Throckmorton. Their love affair had landed them both in the tower a decade before. Raleigh was not executed in 1603 but was imprisoned for another thirteen years, his wife voluntarily joined him in the Tower.
