Didymus. Art for Download. Didymus is an original painting by Julie Schuler. It was inspired by the legend of St. Thomas the Apostle, sometimes called the twin of Jesus. I have depicted conjoined twins. St. Thomas was purported to be a carpenter, like Jesus, so he is building a house for the Holy Spirit symbolized by the birds. The bird is flying off, as Thomas traveled to far off India to spread the word of Jesus. Also known as doubting Thomas, he would not believe until he touched the wounds of Christ. Shown here by the wound in the hand and the stitching of the shirt into a Y, which is the same shape as the stitching after an autopsy, the surgery of inquiry.
