Here’s some facts about my fanfic ‘Sleeping through the End of the World’

It was originally planned to be about 12 chapters long and was born out of some kind of bet. Yet I enjoyed writing it so much I just kept going.

Also the idea with the nightmares came much later. In the beginning it should have been some giant monster or something they fight in the end. Dipper’s fear of darkness (the scene in the closet) was what gave me the idea.

I hadn’t read a single Billdip fanfic before writing it so I wouldn’t be biased. Canon Bill is very different from the fanon one.

The title is inspired by ‘This is Gospel’ by Panic! At the disco. I’m not sure anymore where I wanted to go with it. Something with the twins dreaming about another apocalypse maybe.

Bill was originally going to appear in the form of an animal but it would have dragged on too long so I scraped it.

I needed a way for Bill to have some kind of special powers so I invented the ‘triangle seals’. I thought it was a good idea at first but it got way too complicated in the later chapters.

The crow Bill takes possession of was a spur of the moment decision when one appeared on my way to work one day and just needed to have one in the story no matter what.

Modern technology was in the way of the plot so I destroyed Dipper’s and Mabel’s cell phones in the beginning and let a mudslide take down the landline. I needed an isolated town.

Some things that weren’t mentioned:

Bill developed a liking for cheese sandwiches but would have also liked chocolate if he had gotten the chance to try it.

Nathaniel (the accident victim and Bill’s body) had multiple sclerosis but Bill healed him before he left. That was the reason he was so clumsy and his vision had started to fail. He thought he had just hit his head a little during the accident but soon realized he was all better. He ended up running his own restaurant.

Despite their appearance and being in possession of some sort of collective mind, sleepwalkers were still people. People with human abilities and limitations. They could be forced to use these abilities in ways they probably wouldn’t under different circumstances but being controlled by a nightmare did not magically grant them any special powers. Which meant that their senses were still restricted to the capability of their bodies.
