"Shockwave," by Cello Fury (2011)
Between the three of the, Anton, Graham and Lewis Patzner play over 6 instruments. Graham leads the band Whiskerman, where he writes songs, sings, plays the piano, violin and guitar. Anton and Lewis are co-leaders of Judgement Day, an acoustic heavy metal trio with Anton and Lewish playing violin and cello and John Bush (not pictured) on drums. The two videos below were produced by Chasing The Moon podcast in San Francisco. The first one is of Whiskerman (I think I shot two cameras on that day), the second is Judgement Day (CtM produced that one before I started helping them shoot). Enjoy.
"Peacocks/Pink Monsters," by Judgement Day (2010)
Judgement Day is a "string metal" group from southern California that I found around the same time I stumbled across Animal Collective. The two groups have little or nothing in common; I just mention that for reference's sake.
Now, normally, I'm not such a big fan of the metal genre. It gives me headaches, and the lyrics can feel overly aggressive and fake. But Judgement Day is an exception, partly because they do almost exclusively instrumental work, and partly because I'm in awe of how much sound they can get out of just 3 instruments (an electric violin, electric cello, and drums). Their work is at times brutal, at others gentle, and is always mesmerizing.
