Sprout and Cuphead go back and forth, aggressively flirting and then falling back into the safety of their friends-with-benefits relationship, until one rare moment where Sprout learns that Cuphead's soul is the most vulnerable part of him. The berry feels so honored to be trusted with that part of Cuphead, and that night is the sweetest night of their relationship.

It was so easy for them to fall into this back and forth, especially after Cuphead was pieced back together
Sprout was there to help the taller toon re-learn how to work, how to live, it took weeks and they grew to know each other very closely

They were in Sproutβs quarters, Cuphead leaned back against the headboard while Sprout straddled his hips
They had been making out, evident from the flushed cheeks and heavy breathing they both had

Cuphead grinned before leaning up and flipping their positions, causing Sprout to squeak
Sprout was on his back now, Cuphead sitting between the otherβs legs as he leaned in and started peppering kisses along Sprout's neck
Sprout started to laugh, tilting his head away as he started to hit at Cuphead's shoulders lightly
"S-Stop! You know that tickles!"
They continued like that, playfully tussling and trying to one up each other before Sprout was back in Cuphead's lap and they were laughing
Sprout sighed, looking at Cuphead dreamily before he saw the top of Cuphead's cup starting to bubble again
"You know, you never explained how the liquid in your head works,"
"Oh, that? That's my, well...that's my soul,"
Sprout paused, about to start laying his own kisses to porcelain skin until he pulled back, an expression of pinched concern on his face
"Your soul is that liquid?"
"Your soul is the liquid that is in your head right now,"
"Ding ding ding we have a winner,"
Sprout scowled and swatted at Cuphead, who only huffed a laugh and grabbed Sprout's wrists
"Woah, what did I do to derserve that?"
"I didn't know that about you, I would've liked to know how vulnerable your soul placement was,"
"I don't tend to let people as close to me as I'm letting you,"
Sprout paused, taking a breath before reaching up and cupping Cuphead's face
"I'm a little flattered then, but you should've told me, I would've been more careful about being near the top if I knew,"
"Babes, hey, you are gentle, plus, if I didn't trust you then you wouldn't be anywhere near me when I'm like this,"
"When you're like...what?"
Cuphead only sighed, wrapping his arms around Sprout's waist before pulling him down so they were laying chest to chest, Sprout's head under Cuphead's chin
"This, comfortable, easy, I make everything a joke because it's easier to brush everything off, but you...you make me want to actually live the moment, y'know?"
Sprout hummed, nuzzling into the crook of Cuphead's neck before he sighed
"I understand now, I guess, I feel the same way,"
It was Cuphead's turn to raise a brow and glance down at Sprout
"I'm this overprotective nut, I know what everyone says about me behind my back, I worry about everyone and everything, especially nut cases like you,"
Cuphead laughed, but quickly bit his lip to quiet the sound when he felt Sprout pout against his shoulder
"Yeah yeah, laugh it up, but...but you make it so much easier to let go of all that worrying and just...focus on you,"
Cuphead softened at the admission, his hands running up and down Sprout's back as he hummed quietly
"Focus on me? I'm flattered to have such undivided attention,"
"Aaaaand you've ruined the moment, thought we were being soft with each other,"
"We are, buuuut, the way you're talking about putting your focus on me is making things not so soft,"
Cuphead laughed brightly before calming down, leaning in to capture a kiss with the other man
"Jokes aside, you're the only person I've ever felt this comfortable with besides my brother, but this is a different comfort,"
Sprout tilted his head, letting the kiss linger as he hummed
"Good, because I'm just as comfortable as you,"
