Wayne wouldn't be home until morning. Eddie had it all planned out - find where he stashed the ring, get down on one knee before Billy Hargrove, and ask him to marry him. Sure, he could have lit candles, he could have spread flower petals around, but he didn't want to make Billy uncomfortable.

Billy had no idea what Eddie had in store for him. He was anxious about being caught in the trailer, like always, in case it got back to his dad. Every time he spent the night Billy insisted he leave before Wayne got home - it was routine now, even after two years of dating. But he trusted Eddie, and if he said they were alone, he believed him.

As he turned the corner into Eddie's room, his heart leaped into his throat. Eddie knelt on the floor, a rectangular box in his hand. His brown eyes were soft, big and hopeful as he prepared his speech.

"Billy Hargrove. I know you just graduated, and I... haven't, but no one makes me happier. You wanna get the fuck outta dodge, and I wanna come with you. To California, to anywhere but here. All I ask is you wait for me to finish next year, and - will you marry me, someday?"

"Someday?"

"If we're allowed to. But until then. I got you a ring to wear. No one will question it. Think of it like, uh, a promise."

Eddie opened the box. Inside sat a ring like one of his, with a skull on it, but this one was newer. Shinier.

"You really want this? Me?" Billy asked, looking down at him with awe.

"Only you, handsome. What do you say?"
