               imperial defectors are quite common. imperial defectors who remain within the empire, less so. it is a precarious position to be in. it seems, to him at least, that you have to have a certain degree of bravery to risk relaying information from the heart of the empire out to the rebel alliance. after all, if you are caught, you probably stand slim to no chance of surviving. ( of course, cassian himself is used to being in such positions ).

      an inside source is a valuable thing. something worth crossing the galaxy for. fortunately, cassian had already been in the outer rim territories on another mission before he had been directed to get into contact with an informant on mygeeto - a STORMTROOPER, of all people. the captain keeps his head low, shouldering through the crowded city streets as he waits for the informant to appear. it’s hard to tell who is FRIEND && who is FOE, especially when they all wear that distinctive ivory-white armour, which betrays absolutely no shred of identity. better to be approached himself than risk going up to the wrong individual.

                                                                            the look on his face is both anticipatory and sheepish, well aware of the lengths he had gone to make the joke happen. it was entirely calculated, from the moment they had food set in front of them to when he had timed his delivery to be perfect; all that’s left to see is if it’ll pay off.

               && considering the caliber of his humour, a laugh feels a lot like hitting the jackpot. finn’s grin only grows as seconds continue to pass without words of rebuke. for all that he was sheepish earlier, the only expression he has on now is akin to accomplished.

                                                                          ❝yeah, pretty much. i’m starting you off easy.❞ a few more weeks and finn’ll really get you with some of his better ones. there’s an unholy glint of excitement in his eyes, as though impatient for that time to come. besides, circumstantial humour is not as easy as you might think. it’s a pretty good joke, finn thinks as he’s picking up a still warm slice to bite into the crust first.

               it’s between chews that he deems to reply. because you can do that now. chat during meals——— they don’t impose time limits here. ❝_i _mean——— you do get pizza to sort eat away the memory. that’s gotta be an extra plus point.❞

                                                                           ❝i’m glad you’re here though.❞ a pause. now this is embarrassing in that genuine, full of expression, way of his where the sincerity is alight in his eyes and the lift at the corners of his lips. ❝m’glad you made it out of there.❞

“--Aw, come on...” Nines follows Toots, because for once, he has nowhere else to be. Besides, this is ‘unit cohesion time’, and what better way is there to cohese a unit than to involve unit cohesion?

He huffs a little as he catches up, sending a sidelong glance at him. “--You know the last one who didn’t care what anyone here thought of them wound up a traitor, right?” It still stings. And here he’d thought that he’d been friends with 2187. “--I’m just looking out for you, Toots.”
