G.I. Joe a Real American Hero 7, cover date January 1983, marked the end of the first 2 issue story arc in the young series. The Joes and the Oktober Guard managed to escape being executed. They decided to join forces and attack the Cobra base in Afghanistan. This was not a decision that all the Joes were onboard with. Scarlett pointed out, "Let's not get cute! We've got orders! If we lose the cargo, we're to break radio silence, contact Hawk and get ourselves lifted out!" Clutch joined in, "I'm backing Scarlett! This is a no-win situation! I say let's throw in our losing hand and quit the game before we go bust!" Stalker however pulled rank as he was the field commander for the mission. Scarlett still refused to trust "these lousy reds" and even refused to help them change a tire. "You can give them a hand. I don't wallow with pigs," she informed Clutch. They faced many obstacles, including wiping out a whole Iranian border patrol and many booby traps in the Cobra base, but eventually retrieved the parts for the spy plane. They thought they captured Cobra Commander, but it was just a double wearing a speaker. They found this out when Brekhov shot him to remove a valuable hostage from being in the Joes' hands. When Stalker and his team arrived at the port of Karachi in Pakistan, he learned that he didn't actually have the plane parts. What he had been transporting was actually scrap metal and bottles. It turned out his mission was actually a decoy to tie up the Oktober Guard and Cobra while the real spy plane was being smuggled out. The issue had a pin-up of the MOBAT. ("Walls of Death" G.I.
