Stone Circles and Buddhist Meditation
Stone circles evoke wholeness, unity, and the cyclical nature of existence resonating deeply with Buddhist meditation.
To sit within one is to enter a space shaped by intention and time. The stones may be silent, but they are not empty. They hold memory, myth, and the quiet presence of those who came before.

A Pilgrimage Through Derbyshire’s Sacred Stone Circles
In the quiet hours of a summer morning, I embarked on a pilgrimage through Derbyshire’s ancient stone circles. Across moorland and limestone, through meditation and myth, I found spaces of reflection and transformation.
These circles, scattered across the Peak District, are more than archaeological curiosities. For those who practise meditation, they offer a profound connection to the land’s enduring spirit.

A road trip is brewing.
There’s something stirring in the hills of Derbyshire. Ancient stone circles tucked into the folds of the land, waiting. Nine Ladies, Hordron Edge, Barbrook, Froggatt Edge, and others unnamed.
A road trip is brewing. A pilgrimage.
A chance to wander, to listen, to sit in the hush of old places and feel the pulse of something older than memory. Meditation in the sacred silence.
Maps will only get us so far. The rest? That’s up to the stones.
If this calls to you, please reblog, comment, send a sign. Let’s gather the curious, the quiet, the wild-hearted. More stories and updates will unfold at ramapani.com.
Yesterday I wandered into a dream.
Tucked away in the rolling green of Cornwall, just a breath from the sea, lies a perfect circle of nineteen granite stones: the Merry Maidens. Legend says they were once young girls turned to stone for dancing on the Sabbath. Now they stand silent, timeless, watching the wind ripple through the grass like forgotten music.
📍 Location: Near St Buryan, Cornwall
🪨 Age: Estimated to be over 4,000 years old
🔮 Purpose: Likely a Neolithic ceremonial site, possibly aligned with lunar or solar events
What struck me was the stillness. No crowds. No noise. Just the hush of ancient presence. I sat cross-legged in the circle, the stones forming a perimeter around me like guardians of thought. The energy there is subtle but profound. It’s the kind of place where your mind stops racing and your breath syncs with the earth.
If you’re into meditation, spiritual reflection, or just want to feel like you’ve stepped into a forgotten chapter of human history, this place is magic.
🌸 Tips for Visiting:
Go early or near sunset for solitude and golden light
Bring something to sit on, the ground can be damp
Respect the site: no litter, no climbing
Try a barefoot walking meditation around the circle. It is grounding in ways I can’t explain
I left feeling lighter. Like the stones had absorbed something heavy I didn’t know I was carrying.
If you ever find yourself in Cornwall, go. And if you’ve already been, tell me your experience! I’m collecting stone circle stories like charms on a bracelet.

from "Stone Circles" by Hugh Newman
Stone Age Festival - 2500 BC In the heart of the ancient forest, a ring of towering stones stands tall, etched with mysterious runes and symbols. Every year, during the height of summer, the villagers would gather around this sacred circle to celebrate the bounties of the earth and give thanks to their ancestors. They would light bonfires, dance and sing in honor of their gods, and make offerings of fruits and grains. It was a time of unity, peace, and reverence for the natural world. #neolithic #2500bc #festival #stonecircles #aimidjourney
