AU where Steve is pulled from the wreckage of the plane, just weeks after he's crashed. The serum had saved him, but at a cost. He's reverted back to his skinny self.
He's not sickly or as sickly, he's lost some of the abilities the serum had granted him. He's alive. That's the most important thing Peggy can focus on. Her beloved his alive.
While not having the serum does take adjusting as much as it did when he did have it, it does come in handy, to a degree. Steve finds that no one knows who he is, while everyone knew who Captain America was and there's a poster one very corner, no one knows who Steve Rogers is.
He just shrugs off the 'coincidence' naming and people overlook him after that. Maybe a joke or two.
Steve, now a fresh-faced SSR agent and working alongside Peggy, he uses this to his advantage.
Into their golden years...
By now the mug is chipped from where Sarah attempted to wash it when she was 7 and hit it with the faucet.
The handle has been glued back on three times by now, the last time resulted in the handle being just a little bit wonky. That was from a panicked 18 year old James, trying to sneak back in (why he thought sneaking *out* was a good idea with one serum-enhanced parent and another a spy) and he'd knocked the mug off the counter
Steve never commented on it, just met James' gaze and let him sweat it out that his dad *knew*.
The design is faded but still readable from where Steve has a habit of thumbing over it when hes in thought.
Peggy much in their golden years, picks up Steve's favorite mug and turns to Steve with her brow knitted together in confusion, "Whose Steve?"
Imagine Winter Soldier but instead of Natasha (no hate i luv her) its Peggy whose by Steve's side
Rather its Peggy who took some version of the serum and stayed alive to find Steve

I am excited and worried for Doomsday for many reasons including:
Too much going on. Too much plot. Too many characters at once
Endgame overload
Them blaming Steve for this whole event and timeline business
My only excitement involves seeing Peggy and her life with steve
Love the captain america tag so much because steve looks like hes about to do something stupid and Peggy is forced to watch
Not in a tortured sort of way but because she wants to see how this pans out after telling him it isnt a good idea and now she gets to say I told you so
Fic where Steve is deaged and the Howling Commandos (yes that includes Peggy) have to take care of baby/toddler Steve
Phillips has to step in multiple times before whisking the kid away and he turns into a big ole soft grizzly bear
