I don't know how to feel about this.

Another epic fail on coon control. 😟 last night the horrific noise alarm went off about 8 times. The first three times I sprang out of bed and rushed outside, flashlight in hand, and found-- nothing. So I stopped bothering to get up. This raccoon is playing me! The rain didn't stop him, the alarm with flashing lights didn't stop him. The coon is tenacious! This bed was not the only bed he hit, but was the worst damaged. There's an olla pot in the middle of the bed that you can't see because it's buried. The pot of mint on the front right was covered with at least an inch of freshly dug soil. And some if these holes were five inches deep and almost as wide. I've lost dozens of radishes in this bed alone that were just starting to grow. I spent some time last night on the SPCA site, and they recommend NOT humane trapping this time of year because of likelihood of catching a female and the forced abandonment of a litter. But there are other recommendations. First and foremost is removal of grubs (apparently their FAVORITE food, as I suspected). I'm working on that, and have been for several weeks, but the coon might just be checking in to see if they're back in stock. Next thing is to put some ammonia-dosed rags around the garden. Raccoons have a strong sense of smell and hate ammonia. Don't blame them--so do I. In fact, I'll have to go buy some--don't even have any in the house. Someone suggested on another post that I feed them in a different area. DON'T EVER FEED A WILD RACCOON IN YOUR BACKYARD--or any other wild animal, unless you want to be aggravated forever. As one friend of mine explained, "once they find your all-you-can-eat free buffet, they invite all their extended family and friends to join them."
