🚨Call to Action🚨 @pnwprotectors We need your help protecting 1000 sea lions from being killed! There’s a new proposal between Washington, Oregon and Idaho imploring NOAA for the rights to kill 1000 pinnipeds in the Columbia River (Same river system as the Snake River Dams). There’s also a misguided notion drifting around that mindlessly blames Pinnipeds (seals & sea lions) as culprits for the alarming decline in salmon. When one dives deeper into scientific data there’s evidential proof that shows that pinnipeds consume approximately 60 different species of fish including salmon, and also including hake fish, which consume more salmon than pinnipeds. The Transient Orcas are spectacularly awesome at managing pinniped numbers and consume around 1090 per year! The Salish Sea and west coast is home to 2 different species of Orcas: 73 salmon-eating Southern Resident Orcas 600 mammal-eating Biggs/Transient Orcas. These two species of Orcas live in the same polluted, loud, overfished, dammed waters and yet the Transient Orca population is thriving while the Southern Resident Orcas are starving towards extinction. The glaringly obvious difference = Food. 🚨Let’s stop this misguided cull and protect the Salish Sea from more harm: Click the link under our profile and click the ‘Comment Now’ button and share that you are 100% against the proposed pinniped cull. 📸🌊: @hannah_gabrielson #harborseal #stellarsealion #pinniped #weprotectwhatwelove #salishsea #nopinnipedcull #biggsarethebalance https://www.instagram.com/p/B2hfnN9oZQb/?igshid=1w9vewjp2h8dp
