Chapter 48: They Can’t Hear You Cry Underwater
It’s back. The SteamVerse is back.
Biden and Harris won and suddenly it feels less like I somehow accidentally manifested what we’re going through in 2020 by writing a dystopia with a violent religious cult following a terrifyingly evil leader, police who murder innocent citizens without facing consequences, and people having to wear protective face gear due to things floating around in the air. I. DIDN’T. MEAN. TO. I was just trying to write a fun steampunk dystopia that I came up with ten years ago. I didn’t know it would start happening in real life. UGH.
Okay, this is crazy, but I’ve been writing this story since 2011/2012, posting it since 2013, and 47 chapters later, I’ve hit a point that I honestly never thought I would ever hit in the plot. It’s something I’ve written towards for years, a goal I saw in my head, that I jotted down in my notes, never really sure if I’d eventually get to it.
And I got to it. I wrote it. And I posted it. It’s a big chapter. Big things happening. And I put a shit ton of emotional work into it. So it’s here. Might not seem like a lot for you when you read it, but it’s a lot for me.
I’m working on trying to be more proud of the work I do even if I won’t get paid for it (I don’t want to get paid for fan fiction, that’s not the fuckin’ point of it), and I’m trying to promote myself and talk about how hard I work on my writing, but nothing is as hard as this story. It’s why it’s my favorite. So anyway, I’m proud of this chapter, and here I am promoting it. Because it’s good.
