Edisonโs ten-minute Frankenstein (1910) is a fascinating early take โ skipping the later โlightning-bolt/electricityโ iconography (that wasnโt present in Shelley either, but got cemented by Universal) in favor of something stranger...
A chamber where the creature literally grows from skeleton, to sinew, to skin. It weirdly prefigures โ and maybe even inspired โ Frankโs resurrection in Clive Barkerโs Hellraiser (1987).
The finished monster also bears an uncanny resemblance to the Penguin from Batman Returns, making this short possibly influential on Tim Burton as well, a known fan of early horror. For a century-old reel, itโs surprisingly ahead of its time.
