I have that she was a babynapped troll set to turn into a changeling but somehow escaped, leaving her with old mental emotional wounds and empathic abilities. Untrusting of most of her kind as got years and years they believed her to be a changeling in disguise, not letting her in the troll market and forcing her to live out on her own. Even after they realized their mistake she simply never came back, collecting book after book in her home some dating back as far as some languages have even been around.
