Stanna - People of Tin
The Stanna are a small group of people, and it is difficult for them to withstand the heat of Gold Blood, resulting in an even smaller population of Magi. Those who are born with the gift of magic, however, are beloved by those who rule, and so the Stanna have found themselves in lofty positions at the right hand of the Aura in the Solis Imperium, easily conquered in the age of conquest but prized for skills vital to administration.
The Stanna have gray skin with a tinge of blue, coming in many shades and intensities. They often shave their heads when among the highest positions of power afforded to Stanna, while others will often stylize their hair, which is typically gray with streaks of faint blue.
The magic of the Stanna, while difficult to create, is vital to any aspiring empire. Their minds hold impossibly large catalogs of knowledge, a superhuman quantity. Any piece of information given to a Stanna can be remembered for an eternity.
But what is the cost of such knowledge? The Stanna have had to be strategic about who will remember what information—as the more knowledge one collects, the more basic bodily functions are lost. They may begin to forget to blink, lose control of limbs, struggle to chew, to speak. Fine motor skills falter, until eventually something important gives out, like a heart or a lung, and the individual perishes, taking all of their knowledge with them.
This cost to magic leads to scholarly groups of Stanna cloistered amongst each other in academies, information and data brought to them to disperse, learn, and document. The importance of transcribing information and preserving it are vital, and each Stannum Magi has their own preferred subject matter to research.
