Eddie saves the tape from his answering machine of Steve and Robin calling,long distance, and being absolute menaces at a party right off campus from Robin's college. (Steve flew out to visit for Robin's birthday and Eddie stayed at home because he had important plans with Jeff.) They are both booing him about not tagging along and slurring the words to "girls just wanna have fun". At one point Robin gets distracted and leaves the call and Steve accidentally hangs up then immediately calls back and makes kissy sounds in apology.
There are awkward pauses and moments Steve forgets to speak into the receiver. He even burps and apologizes, (Eddie isn't sure if hes apologizing to him or someone else standing there with him.) "Wish you were heeeere Edddieeee, it's not the same without you!" He waxes poetic about Eddie for all of ten seconds before complaining about the lack of snacks. "There's nothing to soak up the booze, and the host was pretty mad that I ate one of her cookies. Like why throw a party and not at least have chips out? When I threw parties I always did a snack run, and I was like 16!" He starts telling Eddie a half slurred nonsensical story about a shopping trip they took earlier in the day, repeating some inside joke about a rude cashier but then there's a crash in the background followed by an "Oopsie!". Eddie later learns as Robin accidentally knocking over a picture frame. "Uh oh, I've gotta go! the host looks pretty mad. Robbie broke something and I'm not supposed to be on the phone. Love you Eddie! Byyyyee! Stop moving Birdy! You're gonna step on the gla-"
He loves the tape, they have no memory of even calling and racking up the phone bill for that poor host. He hasn't shared that he didn't record over it. They were both being cute, but he kept it mostly because Steve says he loves him right at the end. They aren't dating yet and Eddie's crush increases tenfold.
