Remus was humming a quiet tune under his breath as he walked down the stone corridor. He had never liked the way the dungeons smelt– the cool, damp air tight and suffocating when compared with the open archways and cool breeze that whipped around the taller towers. And yet today, there was a warm smile playing on his lips as he approached one of the Potions classrooms, a name escaping as he turned into the empty workroom. “Lily,” He started brightly. “I’ve brought–“ The words trailed off and he slowed to a stop, bringing a hand to the back of his hair with an awkward, self-aware laugh.  “Oh, hey Severus. Have you seen Lily?”

Standing at the bar to The Three Broomsticks, Remus felt out of place amidst the groups of students laughing and talking on the cool September day. He had agreed to meet Lily here, the pair looking for a change of scenery from the little classroom they had been working on the record player in. Apparently, the idea was a popular one. Glancing across the pub his gaze fell on the familiar auburn-haired witch, eyes lifting at the other wizard already at her side. The werewolf hadn’t met him yet but they seemed comfortable with one another as they spoke, his eyes shifting to Lily’s bright smile. Turning back to the bar, Remus requested another butterbeer, leaving a few coins on the counter. A moment later he was balancing a trio of glasses topped high with foam in scarred hands. 

Setting down the drinks, the werewolf took a seat in the empty space across from the pair. “Hey.” He started, eyes softening as a muted smile crossed his lips. “The girl at the bar said that this was the best thing to get here.”

He looked at her suspiciously. He loved her but the trust was conditional.

He wasn’t a big fan of his birthdays, as cliche as that might sound for the grumpykins in stories. He used to be indifferent about them, no one having made much of a fuss of it when he was growing up. He silently accepted that his entrance into the world wasn’t a big deal to people, especially to himself. No one was particularly grateful for it.

Nowadays, his aging was a bit of drag for him, Keira being a vampire who would live on long past his death. Each year was a step closer to involuntarily leaving her.

Welp. Thanks @baylee-jae. Because now I feel like crying again.
