Super Robot Wars Y presents a dystopian alternate reality in which Char Aznable learns the error of his ways and grows as a person.
Super Robot Wars Y shitpost I made, since I was bored
Going into the Macross Delta finale (plus L-Gaim and Dunbine) stage in Super Robots Wars Y, I am reminded of how I feel the biggest problem with the game’s handing of Witch From Mercury is not actually the fact that it only adapts the first season of the show (though I think the lack of AERIAL REBUILD in the OST is a strong contender for second-biggest problem lol), but instead simply the fact that the G-Witch cast isn’t actually given anything to really DO after their plot is concluded towards the end of Chapter 4.
Like I don’t actually think SRWY not adapting the second season is really even a problem. The issue is simply that the story doesn’t provide anything to replace it.
To give a contrasting example, look at how the game handles Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection: Notably, that story thread wraps up even earlier that G-Witch’s (a whole chapter in fact), yet its characters and even plot remain quite relevant and active throughout the rest of the game.
Which is in very large part thanks to just how much, and rather brilliantly I might add, Y weaves together the settings/plots of Code Geass and Gundam Wing. Which not only means that the Wing cast get to play major supporting roles in the Lelouch of the Resurrection plotline, but also means that the Geass cast get to likewise play major supporting roles in the later Endless Waltz storyline. Which allows Lelouch and co. to remain very active and relevant LONG after the storyline of their source material has concluded.
Honestly I can’t stress enough just how AMAZINGLY well SRWY blends together the plot, narrative and themes of Code Geass and Gundam Wing, to the point that the Lelouch of the Resurrection and Endless Waltz storylines really feel like just the first and second halves of a single collective narrative. It really is one of the best bits of crossover writing that SRW has ever done.
And returning to my point about Witch From Mercury as well as my opening point, the thing I’m honestly most disappointed by is the fact that Y doesn’t do more to weave G-Witch and Macross Delta together in a similar manner.
Of course, as I’ve discussed previously they have a really fun starting point with Miorine becoming Walkure’s manager and Suletta befriending Frejya and the rest of the group. However, they also don’t really do much beyond that.
Which is a real shame, because if you think about it I feel like there are a BUNCH of really fun potential crossover interactions between these two series’, frankly to a similar degree as Code Geass and Gundam Wing. Which to my original point, would allow G-Witch’s characters to remain active and relevant long after the conclusion of their own storyline, as major supporting characters in Macross Delta’s storyline.
Like for just one REALLY fun example; I’ve previously talked about the potential of Suletta being an unofficial sixth member of Delta Squadron, but think about just how much cultural emphasis the Windermereans put on ‘wind’, and consider just how much Suletta and Aerial are tied to storms…
I’ll freely admit this is heavily influenced by my own headcanons in my playthrough, but imagine Suletta and Aerial garnering a very classic Gundam infamy and fear among the Windermereans, with their infamous Nom de Guerre being a terrible storm from Windermerean mythology.
Specifically, they call her a TEMPEST.
The parallel and overlaps really do just write themselves, don’t they? XD
Just imagine that while Windermerean pilots might hate the forces of the Macross and Walkure, they FEAR the Gundam they’ve taken to calling ‘The Tempest’. To the point that even their legendary ‘White Knight’ Keith Windermere can’t even consider the pilot of Aerial to be his ‘rival’, despite have been driven off many times and even downed a few times by her.
Because in his words; “A rival is someone you can fight, someone you can overcome. But against a storm, a tempest? All you can hope to do is survive.”
Basically this is the way SRWY could have included proper show-accurate OP Suletta and Aerial. Not to mention including a few hints/nods to Suletta’s more unhinged ‘murderous cinnamon roll’ traits even if they weren’t going to do ‘Aerial Tomato Paste Special’.
Heck, and this admittedly goes into Season 2 territory so I may be overstepping feasibility a bit, but imagine how Suletta’s and Aerial’s (rather Eri’s) further development could impact Macross Delta’s plot even if Prospera’s machinations aren’t a thing here? Like Suletta and Aerial end up hitting Permet Score 7 and even 8, with their Data Storm not only being able to hijack various forms of remote weapons like the Windermere Lilidraken drones, but even at first interfere with, and later harmonize and amplify Walkure’s songs?
Basically, at the start of the Macross Delta finale stage when I had Suletta and Aerial immediately blitzing deep into Windermere lines and one-shotting the Aerial Knights left and right, I found myself thinking; ‘how could would it be if this was canon and the Windermereans were all freaking the fuck out at the sight of Aerial? XD
(BTW, I haven't actually finished that stage yet, so if there is in fact some surprise bit there where Suletta gets to do something awesome, please don't spoil it for me here)
So I've really enjoyed srw Y

Srw anachronisms is funny since miorine is upset over killing ONE guy meanwhile half the cast are just outright straight murderers
