Why haven't you been updating the Swan Queen List blog? SOOO much awesomeness has happened since season 3 with the last episode being the pinnacle so far. It would be nice to have a comprehensive list of everything swan queen.
I know, I’m sorry. I apologize for neglecting this blog, but I took a much needed break from tumblr for a while. To those of you who sent messages in my time away, I appreciate it, but I won’t be answering them, sorry! It’s just that there are a lot, and I don’t know how old they are, and I don’t want to clutter this blog with a bunch of replies. You’re welcome to message me again though!
Now that I’m back I’ve set up a long queue to catch this blog up to the most recent episode, and after that I’ll try to keep up with the reblogs because that’s fairly easy to do, but there are some things I won’t be updating anymore.
I no longer follow what’s going on behind the scenes, on twitter, in interviews, etc. It was always an exhausting endeavor for me, and it got a lot harder to keep track with the cast, crew and media positively mentioning SQ more and more lately. So, unless it’s a reblog, I won’t be making any more of those posts or updating those sections of the list. In fact, I won’t be updating the written list at all. It’s a lot of work for me to do alone, especially now that it’s so far behind, and I simply don’t have the time or energy for it anymore. And, honestly, it feels a little silly to continue at this point, given the current nature of Emma and Regina’s relationship on the show. And I mean that in the best way possible!
The list started off as a way of reminding myself why I had hope, why there was reason to see and believe in Swan Queen. Then it evolved into a way of doing the same for others, a way of opening people’s eyes to the subtext and subtler connections the general audience would likely miss. It was all about shining a light on the understated aspects of their relationship, helping people see the possibility for growth. It was meant, in part, to prove that Emma and Regina could (if they didn’t already) care for each other (and not only as co-parents). The difference now is that’s an indisputable canon fact. Their relationship isn’t so hard to read anymore, things aren’t as subtle as they once were.
They’re friends, they’re spending a lot of time together, they care about each other, they’re saving each other’s lives without a second thought. There’s no easy way to sort that into a list when it’s just the simple reality of canon. Which is wonderful, obviously, but it makes the list redundant in some ways. If I were to carry on with it, I’d mostly just be reciting what happened on screen, explaining things that should require no explanation. The best, most notable Swan Queen moments are no longer so easily quantified.
So, the list itself will remain as is, but with no further updates. If that disappoints anyone, I apologize, truly, but I don’t think it’s anything to be sad about. It’s a good thing for our ship. The closer SQ gets to canon, the more irrelevant the list becomes. It only means there’s less to explain now, less of a gap between what is and isn’t canon. It means we’re that much closer to what this blog was trying to help people visualize in the first place. It’s just that most people don’t need the help anymore, it’s plain to see what Swan Queen is and all it could be.
